Charlie's Whereabouts in The Santa Clause 2

Discover the mystery behind Charlie's absence in The Santa Clauses Season 2 as Tim Allen reprises his role as Father Christmas Where has his beloved son gone?

In The Santa Clauses Season 2, Tim Allen's Scott Calvin makes a comeback right before Christmas. However, you may be curious about one thing: where is Charlie?

Back in 1994's The Santa Clauses, Allen first portrayed the character, finding himself in a delightfully peculiar situation. When Santa accidentally falls off his roof and meets his demise, Scott unknowingly becomes the new Father Christmas.

The movie achieved great success, leading to two sequels that have largely been forgotten, namely The Santa Clause 2 and The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause. More recently, a sequel series was released on Disney Plus last year (you can read our previous one-star review here).

Now, the show is back for its second season, showcasing Scott's efforts to train his children to succeed him in running the North Pole after his retirement. Additionally, a new character known as "the Mad Santa" emerges, adding to the excitement. However, one important question remains unanswered: What happened to Charlie?

Charlie’s absence in The Santa Clauses Season 2 explained

Charlie isn’t in The Santa Clauses Season 2 for two simple reasons: Eric Lloyd has essentially retired from acting, and Charlie has no place in the story anymore.

Lloyd briefly returned to his role in the first season when Scott visited his son (who is now married and has children of his own) to ask if he would be interested in taking over as Santa. Although flattered, he declines, stating that the North Pole is not a suitable place to raise children and that the demands of the job make it difficult to be an engaged parent.

In a previous interview with TVLine, the creator of the show, Jack Burditt, explained their intention to explore Charlie's life as an adult, but clarified that he would not be a long-term character.

"We extensively discussed the possibility of Charlie becoming the successor, but ultimately felt that it was too convenient and straightforward," he said.

Executive producer Jason Winer explained, "From a practical standpoint, Eric Lloyd has retired from acting and is now pursuing a different career and lifestyle. We approached him and managed to persuade him to rejoin us and make a special appearance for this significant and pivotal moment in the story."

In Season 2, Scott shifts his focus towards instructing Cal (Austin Kane) in the ways of being Santa, and Sandra (Elizabeth Allen-Dick) assumes a role akin to David Krumholtz's Bernard. Catch Season 2 of The Santa Clauses streaming now on Disney Plus. Don't forget to sign up here!

Editor's P/S

As a long-time fan of "The Santa Clause" franchise, I was excited to hear about the release of "The Santa Clauses" Season 2 on Disney Plus. However, I was disappointed to learn that Charlie, Scott Calvin's son, would not be appearing in the new season. I understand that Eric Lloyd, the actor who played Charlie in the original films, has retired from acting. However, I still believe that Charlie's absence from the new season is a missed opportunity.

Charlie was an integral part of the original "Santa Clause" trilogy, and his relationship with Scott was one of the most heartwarming aspects of the films. I would have loved to see how Charlie's character had developed over the years and how he would have interacted with Scott and the other characters in the new season. Overall, I am disappointed that Charlie will not be appearing in "The Santa Clauses" Season 2. However, I am still looking forward to watching the new season and seeing what the show has in store for Scott Calvin and the other characters.
