Charlie Sheen, 58, has dedicated himself to raising his two sons as a single father. The twins, Max and Bob, are shared with his ex-wife Brooke Mueller, who Charlie has stated is not very involved in their children's lives.
In an interview published on December 11, Sheen told People, "I’ve mostly been taking care of my 14-year-old boys. Their mom has been dealing with some things on her end, so she’s not around much right now." Sheen and Mueller, 46, were married in May 2008 and divorced in May 2011.
In March 2011, the twins were taken from Sheen’s residence by the police following a restraining order obtained by Mueller. Two years later, the Department of Children and Family Services removed the 4-year-old children from Mueller’s custody due to her suspected drug use after completing a rehab program.
The boys were first under the care of Sheen's ex-wife, Denise Richards, before being looked after by Mueller's brother, Scott. Mueller regained full custody of the children in December 2014. In August 2019, she entered rehab again and the boys, then 10, were placed in the care of Mueller's parents.
Sheen also had struggles with substance abuse, similar to his ex-wife.
Sheen suffered a stroke in May 1998 due to a cocaine overdose, and in 2010, he was escorted by police from his New York City hotel suite for causing $7,000 in damage. According to the NYPD report, Sheen confessed to drinking and using cocaine the night of the incident.
In 2017, Sheen took a break from acting to focus on overcoming his drug and alcohol addiction. He has been sober for six years and recently made a television comeback, portraying himself in producer Chuck Lorre’s new comedy series, Bookie, which debuted in November.
Sheen's recent reunion with Lorre brought an end to a lengthy 12-year feud. Lorre was the creator of the show Two and a Half Men, in which Sheen starred from 2003 to 2011. Sheen's dismissal from the show came after he publicly criticized Lorre and made offensive remarks while battling substance abuse.
Since getting sober, Sheen has found joy in having full custody of his twins. He is grateful for the unwavering love and support of his father, Martin Sheen, and brother Emilio Estevez, during his struggles with addiction.
“They never slammed the door on me,” Sheen said. “It was always, ‘We are here when you need us.'”

In April 2019, Sheen admitted to USA Today that before making his commitment to sobriety in 2017, he was out of control.
"It's a terrible feeling. I can't deceive you. It all feels unreal. I still can't believe how I caused so much chaos and ended up in that state of mind," he admitted. "It's like I was possessed by some alien or demon... I wish I could erase a lot of it, but they wouldn't call it the past if it could just be erased."
