Chaos Ensues as Just Stop Oil Protestors Cause Havoc During Les Misérables Performance in London

Five climate activists from Just Stop Oil were arrested for disrupting the 'Les Misérables' performance at London's Sondheim Theatre Their protest grabbed attention during Wednesday night's show in the West End

During the Wednesday night performance of the renowned musical "Les Misérables" at London's West End Sondheim Theatre, five climate protesters belonging to the activist group Just Stop Oil, caused a disturbance. In the midst of the song "Do You Hear The People Sing?", the demonstrators made their way onto the stage brandishing bold orange banners emblazoned with the messages "Just Stop Oil" and "The Show Can't Go On."

Local officers from Londons Metropolitan Police swiftly responded to the scene and promptly detained five individuals, as stated in a social media post. According to Just Stop Oil, the demonstrators secured themselves to the set using adaptable bicycle locks at approximately 8:50 p.m. local time. Despite the efforts of theater technicians, the locks could not be removed, forcing the suspension of the performance and the subsequent evacuation of the theater by 9:10 p.m.

In a video posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, the audience can be heard expressing their disapproval towards the protesters and urging them to leave the stage.

"Just like the citizens of Paris in 1832, you have chosen to lock your doors while the youth face danger on the streets. We are destined to inherit a devastated environment, unsuitable for habitation, while our politicians will have moved on," stated Just Stop Oil. "We must not allow this to continue. The performance cannot proceed."

The activist group has also disrupted several major sporting events in England this year, including The Open Championship, Wimbledon, The Ashes and the World Snooker Championship.
