After being on the air for more than 14 years, The Talk will be ending its final season in December 2024.

Rumors about the show ending were circulating, and CBS confirmed the news on Friday, April 12. The long-standing daytime talk show will be canceled.

"The Talk made history 14 years ago when it brought back daytime talk to CBS with an innovative and award-winning format," shared CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach and CBS Studios president David Stapf in a joint statement to Variety. "Over the years, it has been a cornerstone of CBS' highly-rated daytime lineup, sparking engaging conversations on timely and important topics for viewers worldwide."

Continuing their statement, they expressed their appreciation for the challenging work of hosting and producing a year-round talk show. They thanked their exceptional hosts Akbar Gbajabiamila, Amanda Kloots, Natalie Morales, Jerry O'Connell, and Sheryl Underwood, as well as executive producer/showrunner Rob Crabbe, the dedicated production team, and crew. They also recognized the contributions of former hosts and colleagues who played a part in the show's success over the seasons. The team commended everyone involved for their talent, creativity, and commitment to delivering a great show every day.

In wrapping up their statement, Reisenbach and Stapf expressed gratitude to the many guests who appeared on the show and the millions of viewers who tuned in daily.

They also mentioned their plans to honor the show and give it a fitting farewell when it ends in December 2024.

The Talk, created by Sara Gilbert, first aired on CBS in 2010 and has won two Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Talk Show. The original hosts of the show were Sara Gilbert, Holly Robinson Peete, Leah Remini, Julie Chen, and Sharon Osbourne.

Sharon Osbourne, who is 71 years old, was the cohost with the longest tenure on the show. However, she left the show in March 2021 after a heated discussion with Underwood, who is 60 years old, during an episode where they discussed Piers Morgan's criticism of Meghan Markle. Osbourne defended Morgan, her close friend, but faced criticism from her cohosts and audience members. Following the controversial episode, CBS announced that Osbourne would not be returning.

After leaving the show, a source informed We that Osbourne felt "bitterly disappointed" with how things ended for her on the show.

The insider explained, "Her entire career has been built on being honest, speaking her mind, and supporting free speech. Being labeled or seen as a bigot or racist is a horrifying situation for her, especially when she adamantly denies it and claims it's all untrue."

The Talk will conclude on CBS in December 2024.

Editor's P/S:

It is with a heavy heart that I learn of the impending end of The Talk, a show that has been a staple in my daily routine for years. The show's unique blend of humor, insightful discussions, and celebrity interviews has made it a beloved part of the daytime television landscape. The diverse perspectives of the hosts have sparked thought-provoking conversations, shedding light on important social issues while also providing a much-needed escape from the daily grind.

The show's longevity is a testament to its enduring appeal, and its cancellation comes as a surprise to many. The behind-the-scenes drama surrounding Sharon Osbourne's departure in 2021 undoubtedly had a significant impact on the show's dynamics, but it is clear that The Talk has continued to resonate with viewers despite these setbacks. As the show enters its final season, I am hopeful that it will go out on a high note, delivering the same quality content that has made it so popular for over a decade.
