Fishing in Stardew Valley goes beyond being a mere pastime. It offers players valuable resources and the chance to delve into the game world. Fish can be used as cooking ingredients or sold for a quick profit. There are various types of fish, each boasting its own distinctive traits.
The presence of fish fluctuates with the seasons, time of day, weather, and the fishing spot's location. With countless fishing locations in Stardew Valley, players have ample opportunities to cast their lines and uncover the riches beneath the water's surface.
Pelican Town
The River running through Pelican Town is an ideal location for novice farmers to fish for river fish. In the autumn season, players have the opportunity to catch The Angler, one of the five Legendary Fish, at the northern end of the river. Additionally, they can also reel in another Legendary Fish, Ms. Angler, in the same area. However, players are required to reach Fishing Level 3 before they can successfully catch these legendary fish.
Cindersap Forest
The Cindersap Forest is the only map featuring different bodies of water, each home to a different variety of fish. These water bodies are: a river and a pond
River
The River serves as the main fishing spot in Cindersap Forest, an extension of the river in Pelican Town. It generally offers the same variety of river fish, with a few exceptions. Chub and Dorado, for instance, are not commonly found in the town's river but can be easily spotted in the forest river. During the Winter season, skilled players have the chance to catch the challenging Glacierfish, a Legendary Fish. Additionally, there is also a possibility to reel in the Glacierfish Jr., which is categorized as one of the Legendary Fish II. However, it is essential for players to have reached Fishing Level 6 in order to successfully catch these elusive fish.
Pond
Located in the northwest corner of the enchanting Cindersap Forest, there lies a vast pond awaiting anglers to indulge in the art of fishing. Although it offers a slightly smaller variety of fish when compared to the neighboring river, this tranquil oasis presents an array of delightful catches depending on the ever-changing season. Fishing enthusiasts may encounter the likes of Carp, Catfish, Midnight Carp, Perch, Pike, Smallmouth Bass, and Walleye within the calming waters of this idyllic pond.
Secret Woods
The Beach
The Secret Woods lie in the northern region of the Cindersap Forest. Within its hidden depths lies a small pond in the southwest, serving as a sanctuary for a rare species of fish known as The Woodskip. Anglers can also expect to reel in Carp and Catfish in this picturesque location.
The Beach is a highly sought-after location for fishing due to its abundant saltwater fish population. Anglers exploring the eastern end of the Beach have the opportunity to reel in one of the five esteemed Legendary Fish known as the Crimsonfish, as well as its successor, the Son of the Crimsonfish. It is worth noting that these remarkable fish can only be caught once players attain Fishing Level 5.
The Mountain
The Desert
: Superb Fishing Spot at the Breathtaking Mountain Lake!In the northwest section of the Calico Desert lies a pond, serving as a prime spot for players to catch two exceptional fish – the Sandfish and the Scorpion Carp. These fish can be caught throughout all seasons in the Desert.
Additionally, players can test their fishing skills in the small pond situated at the southern edge, assuming their Fishing Level is adequately high. However, it is important to mention that this particular pond is predominantly populated with low-quality fish.
The Mines
While the Mines may not initially appear to be a prime fishing location, several levels within the Mines harbor extraordinary species of fish. Upon reaching Level 20, players will encounter Ghostfish and Stonefish. Further advancement to Level 60 unlocks the availability of Ice Pip and Ghostfish. Finally, upon achieving Level 100, players have the opportunity to successfully catch the elusive Lava Eel.
The Sewers
The Sewers in Stardew Valley is a highly sought-after fishing location once players have successfully unlocked it. It is regarded as one of the top spots for fishing, primarily due to the presence of the coveted Mutant Carp, also known as the Legendary Fish, and its successor, the Radioactive Carp, which holds the title of Legendary Fish II. Additionally, fishermen can expect to reel in regular Carp, as well as Green Algae and White Algae. However, it is worth mentioning that Trash is the only other catch that can be found in the Sewers.
Witch’s Swamp
The dark and mysterious Witch’s Swamp is home to the unique Void Salmon. Players can also catch Catfish, Green Algae, White Algae, and even Void Mayonnaise here.
Ginger Island
Ginger Island is divided into the following areas, each containing exotic varieties of fish.

The Forge, situated on Floor 10 of the Volcano Dungeon, serves as a hub for upgrading weapons and tools. It is the exclusive floor within the Volcano Dungeon where players can indulge in fishing activities. Moreover, the Forge is one of the two designated locations for capturing elusive Lava Eels.
