Caitlin Clark Responds to Michael Che's Humor on Women's Sports During 'SNL' Appearance

Caitlin Clark joined the 'Saturday Night Live' stage on Saturday, April 14, to share her thoughts on the upcoming WNBA Draft amid humorous remarks by Michael Che.

Caitlin Clark quickly proved to be the unofficial MVP of the Women’s March Madness tournament — and she’s not here for any criticism over her game.

During the Saturday, April 13, episode of Saturday Night Live, Michael Che made a joke about the University of Iowa retiring Caitlin Clark's jersey and replacing it with an apron. The joke was met with boos during Weekend Update. The camera then panned to Clark, who was expected to be the No. 1 pick in the upcoming WNBA Draft.

Clark, 22, rolled up next to Che at the Weekend Update desk to show her disapproval of the apron joke. The basketball star made it clear that she did not agree with the sexist idea that women should be in the kitchen instead of on the court.

Clark expressed gratitude for the invitation before responding to Che's comment about being a fan of hers. He mentioned a joke Che made about aprons and pointed out that Che often jokes about women's sports.

Che attempted to minimize his previous jokes about women in sports, but his SNL cohost Colin Jost put together a compilation of every instance where Che had brought up women's sports during live comedy shows and on SNL.

Clark responded to Che's remarks by bringing out her own collection of jokes.

"Colin, you've got all the evidence! Thanks, buddy," she joked. "I may not be as good at telling jokes as you are, but I did come up with some. It would really mean a lot to me if you could take a look at them on these cards over there."

Che then hesitantly looked at the teleprompter to recite Clark's message. He announced, "The Indiana Fever will make the first selection in the upcoming WNBA Draft on Monday." Che added a humorous reminder, "Just to clarify, the Indiana Fever is a WNBA team, not what Michael Che handed out to numerous women at Purdue University."

Clark thought the joke about women's sports was funny and asked Che to share another one. This time, the joke targeted Che's Netflix special, Shame the Devil.

Che jokingly mentioned a new show on Netflix called Ripley, starring actor Andrew Scott. He humorously compared it to his special, saying critics found it just as hard to watch as Shame the Devil.

Clark's basketball record for the most three-pointers in a season was brought up again with another joke. Michael Che was the target this time.

The joke went like this: "And I have three pointers for Michael Che. One: Be. Two: Funnier. And Three: Dumbass," Clark read out loud, trying to hold back a laugh.

Despite reading Clark’s roasts, he proved to be a good sport.

“Good luck in the WNBA,” he concluded. “I hope you have a great first season.”

Clark expressed that joining the WNBA would be a significant milestone, but she acknowledged that it is just one step forward for the league. She also highlighted the impact of former athletes like Sheryl Swoopes, Lisa Leslie, Dawn Staley, and Maya Moore, who paved the way for her.

She expressed her gratitude towards these athletes, stating, "These are the girls [who] kicked down the door so I could walk inside." Clark also took a moment to thank them for laying the foundation. Additionally, she playfully mentioned bringing a souvenir for Michael, who is a big fan of the sport - an apron signed by her.

Saturday Night Live airs on NBC Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. ET.
