Summary
Bucky Barnes' metal arm might not offer him protection against being substituted by the Skrulls in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) since they possess the capability to duplicate its appearance.Within the MCU, the Skrulls have demonstrated their ability to replicate inanimate objects, which implies that they could imitate Bucky's vibranium prosthetic.
Although Bucky possesses superior strength and skills compared to typical Skrulls, his encounter with formidable Super-Skrulls like Gravik could prove challenging.
The Skrulls' remarkable shape-shifting abilities raise doubts about whether Bucky Barnes' mechanical arm can protect him from being replaced by these extraterrestrial beings in the MCU. After losing his original arm in WWII and being presumed dead, Bucky's prosthetic was installed during his time as Hydra's Winter Soldier, evolving into various robust versions over the span of several decades. Hence, it is a valid question whether his synthetic limb would impede alien Skrulls from impersonating the former Winter Soldier, now known as the White Wolf.
Following the destruction of his metal arm by Iron Man in the events of Captain America: Civil War, Bucky underwent a successful rehabilitation in Wakanda and was bestowed with a new arm crafted from vibranium. With a fervent desire to atone for his troubled past as the Winter Soldier, Bucky recently appeared in Falcon and the Winter Soldier alongside Sam Wilson, as they joined forces in their endeavors while also experiencing conflicting perspectives on Wilson taking up the mantle of the new Captain America following Steve Rogers' departure. However, as Marvel delves into the Secret Invasion series and introduces the imminent threat of Skrulls, it has sparked a reevaluation of certain characters within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, questioning their true identities.
A Skrull Could Replicate Bucky's Arm And Replace Him
Contrary to popular belief, Bucky's metal arm does not ensure his immunity to replacement by the Skrulls. Despite its inorganic nature, it is plausible that the Skrulls would have no difficulty replicating the appearance of the Winter Soldier's vibranium prosthetic. This presumption is supported by the fact that both Captain Marvel and Secret Invasion have depicted Skrulls successfully mimicking inanimate clothing to facilitate their covert infiltrations amongst humans (with Earth now harboring a million Skrulls).
Additionally, in Captain Marvel, there was a humorous moment where Ben Mendelsohn's character, Talos, was asked if he had the ability to transform into a file cabinet. Although he questioned the purpose of such a transformation, it hinted that he indeed possessed the capability to do so. This implies that Skrulls can mimic the appearance of inanimate objects, at least superficially. However, the exact mechanics behind this ability have not been explored or explained in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, even in relation to their clothing.
Is Bucky Stronger Than A Skrull?
In the MCU, it appears that the Winter Soldier could hold his own against the average alien Skrull. With comparable strength and endurance to Captain America, Bucky's expertise in firearms and espionage would give him a significant advantage over Skrulls. However, he may face difficulties when confronted with the powerful new Super-Skrulls, like Gravik. With the combined abilities of Groot and Extremis, including rapid healing, the odds would be more evenly matched if Gravik were to confront the former Winter Soldier in the MCU.
