A 64-year-old man from Britain is currently in critical care after being attacked by a shark just 10 meters away from the shore in Scarborough, Trinidad and Tobago.
Farley Chavez Augustine, the Chief Secretary of Tobago, reported that the man was attacked on Friday morning by what seemed to be a bull shark.
Augustine reported that the victim's left thigh and left arm below the elbow were "severed," and that his stomach was lacerated. After undergoing surgery at Scarborough General Hospital, some of his fingers were successfully reattached, as stated by Augustine during a press conference held late on Friday night.
Even though the man is currently in the ICU and under sedation, Augustine mentioned that he is in a stable condition and is recovering well. Due to the severity of his injuries, the man is mostly sedated to manage the significant pain he is experiencing.

A rare shark attack in Sydney Harbour has left swimmers feeling uneasy. The victim, who was on vacation in Tobago with his wife and friends, was set to return to the United Kingdom on Friday. Before heading home, the group decided to take one final swim, but unfortunately, that's when the shark attack occurred.
TTT, the state broadcaster of Trinidad and Tobago, shared a video featuring an eyewitness giving details about the incident. According to Orion Jakerov, the water sports manager at Starfish Resort, the man was standing in water ranging from waist-deep to shoulder-high with his back towards the shark. However, initially, none of them were aware of the shark's presence.
Jakerov mentioned that the people who were with the man attempted to physically defend him when the shark attacked.
The shark, estimated to be between eight and 10 feet long by Augustine, prompted the Tobago House of Assembly to offer a $10,000 Trinidad and Tobago Dollar reward for its capture. However, the bounty was later withdrawn.
Authorities have temporarily closed several beaches in the vicinity of the incident, including the Buccoo Reef Marine Park.
The British High Commissioner to Trinidad and Tobago posted travel guidance related to the attack on X, noting the closure of the marine park.
