Male celebrities are increasingly breaking the silence and sharing their battles with weight issues and eating disorders, a topic that has predominantly been associated with female stars. Ed Sheeran, in March 2023, courageously opened up about his personal struggle with bulimia, shedding light on the prevailing stigma surrounding men and their experiences with eating disorders.
"I often feel quite uneasy discussing certain topics as a man," the singer of "A Team" revealed in an interview with Rolling Stone. "I'm aware that people may perceive it in a particular manner, but it's important to be honest about these matters. After all, many individuals engage in similar behaviors and keep it concealed." Sheeran further disclosed, drawing inspiration from Elton John's memoir, "Me," that he had experienced moments where he would indulge excessively and subsequently face the consequences.
The Grammy winner also admitted to struggling with binge-eating and having an addictive personality. During the Hay House Chasing the Present Summit in July 2020, Sheeran shared that his health had suffered greatly due to touring. "It was mainly due to an unhealthy diet, excessive drinking, and not getting any sunlight while on tour," he explained.
Just two months before the birth of his first child with wife Cherry Seaborn, Sheeran made a conscious decision to significantly reduce his alcohol intake. He revealed to Rolling Stone in 2023, "Cherry asked me, 'If my water breaks, do you really want someone else to drive me to the hospital?' It made me realize the extent of my drinking habits. I didn't want to be intoxicated while taking care of my child."
The England native has shifted his binge habits towards more beneficial endeavors. He expressed, "Nowadays, I tend to engage in binge exercising and being a devoted father."
Aside from that, Jordan Fisher has candidly shared his battles with eating. After welcoming their first child in June 2022, the actor revealed that he was unexpectedly diagnosed with an eating disorder during his wife Elli Woods' pregnancy. This revelation took place on The Drew Barrymore Show in April 2023.
During the last few months of my work contract, I faced immensely challenging physical circumstances," disclosed the actor from To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You. "I endured a significant weight loss of 30 pounds. This is the first time I am openly discussing this on a public platform, and I am grateful that I was able to overcome this difficult period." Zayn Malik
In his autobiography, released in 2016, Zayn, the popular singer behind the hit "Pillowtalk," revealed a previously undisclosed struggle with an eating disorder during his time with One Direction.
Opening up about this personal battle, the solo artist shared, "It's something I've never discussed publicly before, but after leaving the band, I've come to terms with the fact that I was dealing with an eating disorder." He further explained that the demanding workload and fast-paced lifestyle on the road, combined with the pressures and tensions within the band, had a severe impact on his eating habits. Importantly, Zayn clarified that his concerns were not related to his weight, but rather, he found himself going for extended periods without consuming any food, sometimes lasting two or three consecutive days.
He expressed that his eating disorder stemmed from a desire for control, as he felt powerless in other aspects of his life. As a result, he turned to food as a means of exerting control over something. In a 2017 interview with Mirror, the singer of "Dusk Till Dawn" revealed that he sought comfort and support from his mother, who provided him with care and cooked meals for him. Through this, he was able to reconnect with lost parts of himself and regain mental stability.

Lautner, who cohosts "The Squeeze" podcast with his wife Taylor Dome, candidly discussed his struggles with body image during a February 2023 episode. As Pattinson's co-star in Twilight, Lautner revealed the challenges he faced in maintaining a muscular physique for his werewolf character, emphasizing that it was not his natural body and required intense dedication and effort to attain and sustain.
A physically fit body is incomplete without a sound mind, according to Lautner. In addition, he offers some valuable advice for men who are facing similar challenges. That is not where you should be placing your worth," he emphasized.
In May 2023, the Valentine’s Day star responded to critics who had been commenting on his appearance, asserting that he has not aged well over the years. He expressed gratitude for being in a place where he can acknowledge these comments, although he admitted that they do bother him to some extent.
