Yellowstone is set to return for its last batch of episodes, along with the addition of two new spinoffs.

Paramount Network announced on November 2nd that the second half of season 5 will premiere in November 2024. Originally, Yellowstone's final installment was planned to debut this month. However, due to the actors' and writers' strikes, production had to be rescheduled. (The WGA strike concluded in September, while the SAG-AFTRA strike is still in progress.)

Yellowstone's flagship series is coming to an end, but Paramount has announced that the Yellowstone universe will continue to expand with two new spinoffs tentatively titled 1944 and 2024. According to Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of Showtime and MTV Entertainment Studios, Yellowstone has become a global hit franchise with over 100 million fans around the world, and they are just getting started. Following the success of 1883 and 1923, the new spinoffs, 1944 and 2024, will offer audiences a thrilling and unexpected journey with the same complex and compelling storytelling that has made Yellowstone a worldwide cultural phenomenon, thanks to the creative mastermind of Taylor Sheridan.

The initial Yellowstone spinoff, 1883, made its debut in December 2021, introducing a preceding generation of the Dutton family. Notably, the cast comprised Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Sam Elliott, with notable guest appearances from Billy Bob Thornton, Tom Hanks, and Rita Wilson.

In a similar vein, 1923 premiered in December 2022, starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren as the main protagonists. While 1883 delved into the Dutton family's migration from Texas to Montana, 1923 centered on their endeavors to safeguard their ranch during the early stages of the Great Depression.

The second half of Yellowstone's fifth season, originally slated for a summer debut, has faced significant delays. Rumors circulated about a feud between showrunner Sheridan, 53, and series lead Kevin Costner, causing the premiere to be postponed.

According to reports, Kevin Costner, aged 68, expressed his desire to leave the show earlier to focus on his upcoming directorial project, "Horizon: An American Saga," scheduled for release in 2024. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in June, Sheridan stated, "During my last conversation with Kevin, he mentioned his passion project of wanting to direct. There were negotiations between him and the network regarding his departure date from Yellowstone. I assured him that we could accommodate a schedule that aligned with his preferred exit date, which we successfully did."

It is uncertain whether Costner will make an appearance in the final episodes of Yellowstone. In the first half of Season 5, his character John Dutton was engaged in a power struggle with his son Jamie Dutton, who sought to remove him from the governorship of Montana.

However, Costner mentioned in court documents related to his divorce from ex-wife Christine Baumgartner in September that he has completed his work on Yellowstone in 2022. His legal team further stated that the actor will not be involved in any future episodes of the show.
