Super Mario Bros. Wonder introduces new voice actors for some characters, including Giselle Fernandez as the voice of Daisy.
The fans have expressed positive reactions to the casting choices for the game, eagerly anticipating the opportunity for newer talent to shine. Fernandez, known for their work on games such as Fire Emblem Heroes and Genshin Impact, joyfully revealed their role as the voice of Daisy and expressed their enthusiasm for the character's inclusion as a playable option in the game.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder is now officially released, and Princess Daisy's new voice actor, Giselle Fernandez, has announced her role online. This game introduces Kevin Afghani as the new voice actor for Mario and Luigi, taking over from Charles Martinet. It appears that Princess Daisy is not the only character with a new voice actor, as there have been other recasts for Wonder.
Before the release of Wonder, a leaked cast list suggested that only Mario and Luigi had been recast, and all the other actors who previously played the classic Mario characters, such as Samantha Kelly and Kenny James, would reprise their roles. However, the official credits list does not include Deanna Mustard, who had been the longtime voice actor for Princess Daisy since 2003's Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour on the GameCube, spanning almost two decades. Giselle Fernandez makes her debut as the new voice actor for Princess Daisy in Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
Giselle Fernandez, an actor based in Los Angeles, excitedly revealed on Twitter that they have a role in Nintendo's launch celebration for Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Fernandez has previously worked on various projects, including voicing characters in games like Fire Emblem Heroes, Genshin Impact, and League of Legends. They proudly announced that they are the voice of the "coolest princess," Daisy, in Wonder.
The news of Fernandez's role sparked congratulations and excitement from many voice actors and fans. They are eagerly anticipating hearing Fernandez bring the tomboyish princess, Daisy, to life in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Some fans also pointed out that Nintendo has been selecting relatively newer talent for these roles, rather than relying on big-name actors. They drew comparisons to Charles Martinet, who in 1996 became the voice of Mario in Super Mario 64 despite being a new actor at the time. Just like Martinet, Fernandez and Afghani were chosen based on their audition performances, regardless of their previous reputation in the industry.
Fans were left questioning why Deanna Mustard, who had been the beloved voice of Princess Daisy for a significant amount of time, was absent from the role. Mustard's portrayal of the iconic princess came to an end with the release of Mario Strikers: Battle League in 2022. Another long-standing actor, Kazumi Totaka, who gave voice to Yoshi, was also noticeably absent from the credits of Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Despite this, many were captivated by Fernandez's portrayal of Daisy and eagerly anticipate hearing more of them in future installations.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder is now exclusively available for the Nintendo Switch.
