Stranger Things season 5 has faced significant delays due to the dual strikes, but with the end of the WGA strike, the writers have resumed working on the scripts.
The producers are patiently awaiting the resolution of the SAG-AFTRA strike before commencing production on season 5. Unfortunately, negotiations between the two parties appear to be at a standstill.
The delay in production presents an advantageous opportunity for the creative team behind Stranger Things to meticulously refine the scripts for season 5. This is particularly important as Netflix places great emphasis on the show, considering the natural progression of the actors' aging.
Stranger Things season 5 has received an exciting update from producer/director Shawn Levy. The highly popular Netflix show has faced significant delays due to the writers and actors strikes. However, now that the WGA strike has officially ended, the Stranger Things writers room has resumed work on season 5. Unfortunately, production is on hold until the SAG-AFTRA strike is resolved.
Levy recently shared an update on Stranger Things season 5 during an interview with The Wrap. He revealed that the Duffer brothers have been working hard since the end of the writers strike and that filming will begin shortly after the actor's strike comes to an end. Levy also mentioned that they have various projects in progress, including a Stranger Things stage play opening in London. Read Levy's full update below:
We are eager to begin filming as soon as possible, but resolving the actors' strike is our top priority. The Duffers have been working hard ever since the writer strike concluded. In addition to that, our Stranger Things play will be opening in London very soon, and it's absolutely fantastic. We are extremely enthusiastic and ready to start – our cast, crew, and everyone involved. It is not only crucial for everyone to get back to work because numerous crew members have been unable to earn a living during the strikes, but we will also commence shooting shortly after the actors' strike comes to an end.
The Latest Stranger Things Season 5 Updates
After the WGA and AMPTP came to a preliminary agreement, the writers of Stranger Things took to Twitter with the message "We're back" to celebrate and announce their return to working on the scripts for season 5. It was also revealed that Netflix is giving priority to Stranger Things season 5 due to the aging of its stars. The tentative deal between the WGA and AMPTP was later ratified, officially putting an end to the writers strike. The Stranger Things writers, like everyone else, are now waiting and hoping for a fair deal between SAG-AFTRA and the studios.
While the Stranger Things writers have been working on season 5 for weeks, the other side of the equation remains uncertain. Levy mentions that filming will commence soon after the actors' strike is resolved, but the timing of that is unclear. The most recent update showed a bleak outlook for the actors' strike, as negotiations between SAG-AFTRA and AMPTP broke down, seemingly pushing them further away from reaching an agreement than when they initially started. One potential positive aspect is that Stranger Things season 5 will have ample time to perfect its scripts before entering production.
