Fitness Boxing, a popular Nintendo Switch exclusive, has been removed from the Switch's eShop and will be removed from the Nintendo store entirely on November 30.
The exact cause of its removal is unclear, but it may be attributed to server expenses or expired music licenses for the game. Fitness Boxing 2 and Fitness Boxing: Fist of the North Star, on the other hand, are expected to remain available for a considerable period.
Fitness Boxing, a popular exclusive game for the Nintendo Switch, is set to be removed from the Switch's eShop. This decision comes shortly after the release of the third installment of the game.
Developed by Imagineer, Fitness Boxing has achieved great success since its release in late 2018 in most regions, followed by a release in the American market a few months later. The trilogy of games revolves around the player using their Joy-Cons as boxing gloves, while boxing to the beat of lively music and aiming for a high score. Players follow the instructions of a chosen trainer, who can be customized, and burn calories in the process. Although it may not have reached the same level of popularity as the Wii Fit series, the game performed well enough to warrant a sequel, Fitness Boxing 2: Rhythm and Exercise, which also sold impressively. Additionally, this year the game even had a crossover with the popular anime Fist of the North Star.
As per Nintendo's recent announcement, the first Fitness Boxing has been removed from the Switch eShop and will no longer be available for purchase after November 30th of this year. While the exact reason for this decision was not provided, it is common for such unexpected actions to be driven by either server costs or the expiration of licenses. Given the extensive use of popular songs in this trilogy, the latter reason seems plausible. It is worth noting that this announcement only applies to Japan and European territories, with no mention of the Americas. However, it is important to approach this detail with caution.
There is no news regarding the future of the two Fitness Boxing sequels. However, considering the recent surprise DLC release for Fitness Boxing 2 in 2023 and the fact that Fitness Boxing: Fist of the North Star is only six months old, it is probable that these two installments will continue to be available for a considerable amount of time. Nevertheless, for those who have overlooked the first game and have even a slight interest, it is advisable to acquire it before the end of November.
It is always disheartening to learn that a beloved game will soon be discontinued, and Nintendo fans have experienced this loss on multiple occasions in recent years. Fortunately, though physical retail copies of Fitness Boxing will no longer be produced, the unsold copies are expected to remain in stores until they are sold out. This outcome is more favorable compared to other games that have met a similar fate.
Fitness Boxing is available on Nintendo Switch.
