The Mean Girls the Musical film is officially happening, and creator Tina Fey is eager to infuse more pink into the silver screen.
"I am thrilled to bring Mean Girls back to the big screen," Fey expressed in a statement to Playbill in January 2020. "It has been immensely fulfilling to witness the impact the movie and the musical have had on audiences."
Fey, the writer of the 2004 film Mean Girls, is bringing the successful musical adaptation back to the big screen. The new film will feature a few familiar faces, including Reneé Rapp, who will reprise her role as Regina George after playing it on Broadway.

The Mean Girls the Musical movie is officially a go — and creator Tina Fey is ready to bring even more pink to the big screen.
"I am thrilled to reintroduce Mean Girls to the silver screen," Fey expressed in a statement to Playbill back in January 2020. "It has been incredibly rewarding to witness the impact the movie and the musical have had on audiences."
Fey, the author of the 2004 film Mean Girls, cast Lindsay Lohan (Cady Heron), Rachel McAdams (Regina George), Amanda Seyfried (Karen Smith), and Lacey Chabert (Gretchen Wieners) as the main characters. Additionally, in the comedy, Fey assumed the role of teacher Ms. Norbury, while her longtime friend Amy Poehler portrayed Mrs. George, Jonathan Bennett played Aaron Samuels, Lizzy Caplan acted as Janice Ian, and Daniel Franzese appeared as Damian.
Fey brought the popular film to Broadway in 2018 and now plans to turn it into a new movie, featuring some familiar faces. Reneé Rapp, who previously portrayed the role of queen B, Regina George, on Broadway, will reprise her role in the upcoming film.
Speaking on Late Night With Seth Meyers in February 2023, Fey expressed her enthusiasm for the incredible cast, stating, "I'm thrilled about the cast."

The cast for the upcoming movie has been announced. Angourie Rice has been selected to play the role of Cady Heron, Auli’i Cravalho will be portraying Janis Ian, and Jaquel Spivey will take on the character of Damian Hubbard. Avantika Vandanapu, known for her performance in Senior Year, will play Karen Smith, while Christopher Briney from The Summer I Turned Pretty will portray Aaron Samuels. Bebe Wood, known for her role in Love, Victor, has been cast as Gretchen Wieners. Busy Philipps was announced in March 2023 to be playing the role of Regina's mom, Mrs. George, and Jenna Fisher will be portraying Cady's mom, Mrs. Heron. Mahi Alam will be playing the character Kevin Gnapoor, and Connor Ratliff will take on the role of Mr. Rapp, a teacher.

In March 2023, during an interview with Entertainment Tonight, McAdams expressed her belief that Rapp, the new actress portraying Regina George, is flawless in her performance. The talented Rapp has left a strong impression on the Notebook actress, who described her as "amazing."

In April 2023, Rapp exclusively informed We that there will be modifications to both the script and track list.
