Liverpool have reached an agreement to acquire the services of Ryan Gravenberch, the talented midfielder from Bayern Munich, for a fee approximately amounting to €40m (£34.2m). Gravenberch is poised to commit to a five-year contract under the guidance of Jurgen Klopp. He is expected to travel to Liverpool this Thursday evening to finalize the transfer, with a medical examination scheduled for Friday.

Gravenberch was absent from Bayern's training session on Thursday, as he was awaiting confirmation to proceed with his transfer to Liverpool.

Bayern aimed to regain the £20m fee, which includes additional payments, invested in acquiring Gravenberch from Ajax, and also secure a profit. It is known that Ajax has a sell-on clause of 7.5 per cent in this agreement.

Bayern, who are keen on Fulham's Joao Palhinha, wanted to source a replacement before sanctioning Gravenberch's departure.

Ryan Gravenberch is on his way to Liverpool

Gravenberch is eager for a chance to get his development back on course after having limited playing time in Munich.

Liverpool's interest in Gravenberch, as reported by We News last summer, has been long-standing. He was one of three options on their shortlist before ultimately deciding to join Bayern from Ajax.

Meetings with Jose Fortes Rodriguez, the player's representative from Raiola, have been frequent since last year.

Liverpool has been considering Gravenberch throughout the summer, but the club had different priorities and initially, Bayern was not willing to sell.

Liverpool, having missed out on securing Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia who were signed by Chelsea, have now shifted their focus back to finalizing a deal for Gravenberch. Despite Liverpool's progress, reliable sources informed We News on Thursday that Manchester United's interest in Gravenberch has not waned.

Erik ten Hag, who promoted the multi-functional midfielder to the first team and extracted the best from him at Ajax, has been trying to sign him since the winter window.

United attempted to inquire about Gravenberch's availability in January but were met with resistance from Bayern, leading them to secure a loan deal for Marcel Sabitzer instead.

Furthermore, United is currently engaged in negotiations with Fiorentina regarding Sofyan Amrabat. In their endeavor to adhere to Financial Fair Play regulations, the club is keen on a loan agreement, whereas the Serie A side leans towards a permanent transfer.

'Gravenberch's potential is huge'

European football expert Andy Brassell speaking to We News:

"This deal is a shrewd move. The possibilities are immense - and Liverpool require additional players in light of the significant number of midfielders they lost during the summer.

The midfield trio of Wataru Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Alexis Mac Allister has great potential. However, relying on them alone for 60 games this season is not feasible. They require additional support.

Gravenberch understands that he may not be a starter in every game, but he hopes for a chance to prove himself, unlike his time at Bayern Munich.
