Intel has confirmed that its Meteor Lake-S desktop CPUs will arrive in 2024, debunking earlier rumors of their cancelation.

The company released details about the Meteor Lake Intel Core Ultra mobile CPUs, sparking speculation as no update was given on the desktop SKUs.

Confirming the presence of the Meteor Lake desktop CPUs, Michelle Johnston Holthaus, an Intel executive, expressed the company's interest in having a single processor family that caters to both mobile and desktop segments.

Intel has put to rest rumors of the cancelation of its Meteor Lake-S desktop CPUs by confirming their arrival in 2024. During the Innovations 2023 event, Intel focused on sharing information about the Meteor Lake Intel Core Ultra mobile CPUs, leaving the desktop SKUs without an update. This lack of information contributed to speculation about their cancelation earlier this year. However, an Intel executive recently confirmed that the desktop SKUs are indeed scheduled to launch next year.

The rumor mill has been abuzz and leaks have been surfacing for months regarding Intel's upcoming generation of mobile and desktop CPUs. Initially, the company was expected to introduce its 14th Gen CPUs for desktop under the name Meteor Lake. However, Intel made the decision to revitalize its current Raptor Lake lineup instead. As a result, the Meteor Lake lineup will now exclusively consist of mobile CPUs, which will be rebranded as Core Ultra 5/7/9, unveiling on December 14.

Intel Core i5-13600K

The Intel Core i5-13600K, priced at $318 on both Amazon and Newegg, boasts impressive specs including 14 cores, 20 threads, and ample potential for overclocking. It emerges as a top choice for gamers seeking the ultimate gaming CPU that offers exceptional value, performance, and features. Intel has successfully surpassed AMD's offerings in this category and even crafted a product that can challenge the higher-end CPUs of AMD.

In an interview with PCWorld, Michelle Johnston Holthaus, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Intel's Client Computing Group, shared that the development of the desktop Meteor Lake CPUs is still ongoing and is scheduled for release next year. This confirmation refutes rumors of cancellation and provides a rough timeline for the release. Holthaus also expressed her desire for a single processor family that caters to both mobile and desktop segments, when questioned about the possibility of separate processor families.

The exact release date for the Meteor Lake-S desktop CPUs, however, has not been announced yet. On the other hand, the Raptor Lake Refresh 14th Gen desktop SKUs are expected to be launched on October 17. It remains uncertain whether they will be available for purchase immediately or at a later date in the year. Furthermore, during Intel's Innovations 2023 event, it was revealed that the Meteor Lake mobile CPUs will be released on December 14. This suggests the possibility of Intel releasing the desktop counterparts in the first quarter of next year.

According to reports, the Raptor Lake Refresh series is set to include six SKUs: the Core i9-14900K, Core i7-14700K, and Core i5-14600K, along with their iGPU-less KF counterparts. The Core i9-14900K boasts 24 cores, the Core i7-14700K has 20 cores, and the Core i5-14600K features 14 cores. All of these models are expected to have an unlocked TDP of 125W. The non-K SKUs are likely to be announced next year, possibly at CES. Early benchmarks and leaks for the Raptor Lake Refresh lineup indicate only minor performance improvements.

Regarding the upcoming Meteor Lake mobile CPUs, they will incorporate on-package LPDDR5X memory, similar to Apple's M1 and M2 chips. Intel's demo showcased a chip with integrated 16GB Samsung LPDDR5X-7500 memory.
