Summary
"Holiday Party," the second episode of Star Trek: very Short Treks, features a hilarious misunderstanding by Lt. Spock at a holiday party on the USS Enterprise.
Saru's presence in this episode seems peculiar, given that the USS Shenzhou witnessed the events depicted in Star Trek: Discovery.
However, despite certain discrepancies, it is delightful to have Bruce Horak reprising his role as Lieutenant Hemmer and sharing moments with Uhura within the timeline of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 1.
Lieutenant Hemmer (Bruce Horak) makes a comeback in Star Trek: Very Short Treks, the most peculiar episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds so far. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Star Trek: The Animated Series, Casper Kelly (Adult Swim) produced five humorous shorts called Star Trek: Very Short Treks, using the TAS animation style. With a star-studded cast of former and current Star Trek actors, Very Short Treks ventures far from canon, diving into the realm of bizarre comedy. The premiere episode, "Skin a Cat," was released on Star Trek Day, both on StarTrek.com and the Star Trek YouTube channel, with new episodes being released every Wednesday.
The latest episode of Star Trek: Very Short Treks, titled "Holiday Party," brings back Bruce Horak as Hemmer. In this comedic short, a holiday celebration aboard the USS Enterprise takes a disastrous turn when Lt. Spock (Ethan Peck) misinterprets the meaning of a 'blooper reel.' Watch it below:
Hemmer's Star Trek: very Short Treks Strange New Worlds Comeback Explained
The second episode of "Short Treks" titled "Holiday Party" showcases the voices of Ethan Peck and Bruce Horak, who play Lt. Spock and Lt. Hemmer respectively, from the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds cast. Other cast members include Celia Rose Gooding as Cadet Nyota Uhura, Gia Sandhu as T'Pring, Doug Jones as Saru, Bonnie Gordon as the voice of the USS Protostar computer, and Eric Bauza as Red Shirt, Lieutenant, and Ensign from Star Trek: Prodigy and Star Trek: Lower Decks. Nurse Christine Chapel and Number One also make appearances in non-speaking roles. It is worth noting that although "Holiday Party" is set during the first season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, it does not align with the official Star Trek canon. Some inconsistencies arise, such as Saru wearing his red Captain's uniform from Star Trek: Discovery season 4, despite the events of the episode being witnessed by the USS Shenzhou in Star Trek: Discovery. Additionally, T'Pring's actions in the episode, which result in Spock feeling emotional, seem unduly harsh considering their broken engagement in Strange New Worlds season 2 and ultimately their relationship's end in Star Trek: The Original Series. Nonetheless, it is enjoyable to see Bruce Horak reprising his role as Hemmer and witnessing his interactions with Uhura during the timeframe of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 1.
