In the crossover event between Final Fantasy 14 and 16, titled "The Path Infernal," players will witness the Warrior of Light joining forces with Clive to face a unique incarnation of Ifrit. To understand the purpose behind Clive's arrival in Eorzea, players must embark on various quests.
During the 2023 London Fan Fest, Naoki Yoshida, the producer and director of Final Fantasy 14, unveiled exciting news for players. Torgal will soon be accessible as a mount, along with other rewards, as part of the highly anticipated collaboration with Final Fantasy 16. Although an exact date for the crossover event between Final Fantasy 14 and Final Fantasy 16 was not provided, Yoshida treated the audience to a glimpse of what to expect through a trailer.
The event kicked off with an extended trailer for the upcoming Dawntrail expansion. Following this, Yoshida engaged with the audience while dressed in a cosplay of one of the new Jobs that will be introduced in Final Fantasy 14 with the expansion. The Viper, an original Job for Final Fantasy 14, was revealed as a new melee DPS job. This Job utilizes dual swords that can be combined into a powerful two-handed weapon. The Viper's fighting style drew immediate comparisons to Final Fantasy 9's protagonist, Zidane Tribal, who also wielded similar weapons. However, the reveal of the Viper was just one of the surprises Yoshida had in store for the enthusiastic London crowd.
Towards the conclusion of the London Fan Fest keynote, it was revealed by Yoshida, the producer of both Final Fantasy 14 and Final Fantasy 16, that there would be a crossover between the two games prior to the launch of Dawntrail. While no specific release date was mentioned for the FF16 crossover, a new trailer showcased the rewards awaiting FF14 players who complete a series of quests. These rewards include Torgal as a mount, a Torgal pup minion, orchestrion rolls featuring music from FF16, and Clive's outfit as a glamour. Moreover, the Torgal mount will have a special action allowing players to interact with and pet the adorable dog.
Yoshida named the Final Fantasy 16 event "The Path Infernal," where the Warrior of Light will cross paths with the main protagonist Clive. Together, they will confront a special version of Ifrit from Valisthea. Prior to Shadowbringers, Final Fantasy 14 had a similar collaboration with Final Fantasy 15, which featured the appearance of Noctis. It is anticipated that Clive will fulfill a similar role in the upcoming FF16 event, although players will need to complete quests to understand why he is in Eorzea.
The event, set to commence during the 6.5 patch series, offers Final Fantasy 14 players an array of new rewards and achievements. As for Final Fantasy 16 players, it remains a mystery what rewards they will receive as part of the crossover with Final Fantasy 14.
Final Fantasy 14 is available now for PC, PS4, and PS5, with an Xbox Series X/S version launching in Spring 2024.
