The newest issue of South Asians in Football Weekly has been released following yet another eventful week for the community in the Beautiful Game...

The North East football fans were in for a special treat to start the weekend, as Sikh-Punjabi twins Amar and Arjun Singh Purewal took charge of their respective teams during Consett's match against Hebburn Town.

The brothers have been pioneers for British South Asians in Football for over 15 years. They made their mark as teenagers by becoming the first twins to score in the same FA Cup tie in 2008. This historic achievement occurred when they both found the net for Bishop Auckland in an Extra Preliminary Round victory against Darlington RA. Adding to their legacy, they made history two years ago when they became the first British South Asian brothers to face each other in a Wembley Cup final.

Arjun captained Consett that day but it proved to be a day to remember for Amar, who scored his side's first goal as Hebburn went on to lift the FA Vase trophy with a 3-1 win.

Amar and Arjun Singh Purewal stood alongside league footballer Mal Benning and Dev Trehan from We News at the Sporting Khalsa Football Club. However, this time Arjun had the final say, sealing Consett's 3-0 victory over Hebburn with a powerful header. Hebburn, who had held the top position in the Northern Premier League East table before the weekend's matches, could not overcome Arjun's goal.

Simran Jhamat marked her first home start for West Brom with a goal in a 4-1 win against Huddersfield in a match that was played at The Hawthorns.

The attacker made her debut in the same game as Mariam Mahmood, both of whom were featured earlier this year in the first-ever timeline and exhibition highlighting the history of South Asian heritage female players in modern English football.

Jhamat scored her first goal for the Baggies with a classic poacher's finish, converting a cross from skipper Hannah George in close range. Additionally, Mahmood earned a penalty during the game.

It was yet another successful week for Safia Middleton-Patel, the talented young goalkeeper of Manchester United Women's team. Middleton-Patel has now risen to the position of the club's second-choice goalkeeper, right after Mary Earps, who represents England at the international level.

United have let go of Sophie Baggaley, who has moved to Brighton on WSL Transfer Deadline Day. This makes Middleton-Patel the next goalkeeper in line to Earps, who had previously been rumored to leave the club.

However, as anticipated, United successfully finalized a £100,000 agreement to acquire Phallon Tullis-Joyce from OL Reign later on Deadline Day. This signing strengthens their choices in the goalkeeping position.

In the wake of an incident involving a Sikh semi-professional footballer, where he received a second yellow card for his response following an alleged action of another player pulling at his patka—a sacred head covering worn by numerous Sikhs—it is imperative to explore the implementation of enhanced privacy measures.

Speaking to We News at the time, Singh expressed his satisfaction with the contribution made towards educating and enhancing awareness about South Asians and Sikh communities in football.
