Boxer Sherif Lawal Dead at 29 Following a Head Injury During His Professional Debut

Boxer Sherif Lawal tragically passed away at the age of 29 after suffering a head injury during his very first professional fight. He was knocked out during the event held at the Harrow Leisure Centre in London on Sunday, May 12. Lawal collapsed after receiving a blow to the temple and sadly, he did not survive.
Warren Boxing Management issued a statement regarding the incident that occurred on Monday, May 13. During a debut fight at Harrow Leisure Centre, boxer Sherif Lawal collapsed and tragically passed away despite the paramedics' efforts.
The management team extended their condolences to Lawal's family, friends, coaches, and all those who were close to him. They expressed that the boxing community in Great Britain is keeping them in their thoughts during this challenging period.
Lawal participated in the first fight of the night against Portuguese opponent Malam Varela, as reported by ESPN. Unfortunately, the remaining fights were canceled after Lawal suffered a fatal injury.
Following Lawal's tragic passing, the British Boxing Board of Control issued a statement on Monday. According to NBC News, the board expressed their sympathy, stating, "The thoughts of all those involved in Boxing in Great Britain are with them at this difficult time."

Just two years later, Jeanette Zacarias Zapata faced severe brain injuries while fighting against Marie-Pier Houle from Canada. Zapata, only 18 years old, was put into a medically induced coma before ultimately passing away.
In a statement released by event promoter Groupe Yvon Michel, it was confirmed with deep sorrow that Jeannette Zacarias Zapata had passed away at 3:45 p.m. The news brought immense sadness and anguish to all those who knew and followed her journey.
