Meanwhile, Maddie, a rookie cop at the LAPD, confronts the harsh realities of her job.

Honey Chandler, recovering from a recent attempt on her life, attends the trial of Carl Rogers, the person responsible for the attack. Unfortunately, the trial ends in a mistrial. Chandler then focuses on a case involving a homeless man accused of murdering a doctor. Seeking assistance, she enlists Bosch's expertise to examine the evidence and provide testimony. During his investigation, Bosch discovers that the potential heir to Vance's wealth has passed away. Additionally, an earthquake damages Bosch's iconic apartment, forcing him to find a new place to live.

In Season one, there are numerous interconnected events. One of them revolves around Maddie Bosch investigating a rapist who wears a luchador mask during his assaults. In her pursuit of information on the rapist, Maddie reaches out to Kurt Dockweiler, a property inspector, after finding his phone number on an inspection notice.
