Harry Potter actress Bonnie Wright recently shared her thoughts on the criticism surrounding her character Ginny Weasley and expressed her own disappointment with how the character was handled in the seven films. During a recent interview on Michael Rosenbaum's Inside of You podcast, Wright opened up about her feelings towards Ginny's portrayal.
"I definitely felt anxious about performing and doing justice to my character as they developed. The constant worry of whether I could meet the expectations of fans who loved the character made it challenging. Additionally, many scenes from the book were inevitably condensed or cut in the film, which limited the opportunity to showcase the character fully.
It was disappointing at times because certain aspects of the character couldn't be fully portrayed due to the lack of scenes. This caused me to feel anxious and frustrated."
There was limited room for change in those scripts due to the scrutiny of numerous executives. Initially, I believed that my anxiety stemmed from the fear of inadequately portraying my character. However, I later realized that I was not given the chance to fully explore that role. Consequently, it was not entirely my fault.
When fans express their disappointment, they often reassure me that they understand it was not my doing. Their desire for more of my character is shared by fans of other characters as well. If only the movies could be extended to five hours.
More to come...
