Boldly Going Beyond: Spock's Star Trek Warp Commands Transcend Seven Of Nine

Boldly Going Beyond: Spock's Star Trek Warp Commands Transcend Seven Of Nine

Spock and Seven of Nine race for a captain's warp command in Strange New Worlds While Spock's attempt fails, will Seven of Nine succeed in Star Trek: Legacy?

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has introduced a quirky catchphrase for Lieutenant Spock (Ethan Peck) when it comes to commanding the warp drive, something that Captain Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) in Star Trek: Picard is still lacking. In the season 2 premiere of SNW titled "The Broken Circle," Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) is absent as he assists Commander Una Chin-Riley (Rebecca Romijn) in preparing for her court-martial. This leaves Spock in charge of the USS Enterprise. However, when the Enterprise receives a distress call from La'an Noonien-Singh (Christina Chong) near Klingon territory, Spock is compelled to take the Enterprise out of space dock without authorization from Starfleet in order to embark on a rescue mission.

With the help of a mysterious Starfleet engineer named Commander Pelia (Carol Kane), Spock and the crew of the USS Enterprise successfully break free from space dock and begin their mission to save La'an Noonien-Singh. In a lighthearted moment amidst the seriousness of the episode, Lieutenant Erica Ortegas (Melissa Navia) humorously asks Spock what his warp command catchphrase will be. Spock's response is both amusing and reminiscent of a similar scene in the final episode of Star Trek: Picard season 3, "The Last Generation."

Spock Beats Seven Of Nine To A Captain Warp Command In Strange New Worlds

Spock's warp command, "I would like the ship to go... now," is a humorous representation of what a Vulcan would consider impressive and authoritative. This aligns with the portrayal of a younger and somewhat awkward version of Spock in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Additionally, it serves as a reminder that Seven Of Nine, the newest major Captain in Star Trek, has yet to establish her own warp command. Although Star Trek: Picard's series finale "The Last Generation" hinted at her catchphrase, it was not revealed to the audience.

Spock's Warp Command Doesn't Stick But Will Captain Seven Of Nine's in Star Trek: Legacy?

In regards to Captain Seven Of Nine, there is anticipation for a potential Star Trek: Legacy spinoff where she would take on the role of the Captain of the USS Enterprise-G. However, it has not yet been confirmed by Paramount and is eagerly sought after by Star Trek: Picard season 3 showrunner Terry Matalas. While a catchphrase may seem insignificant, the warp commands of various Star Trek Captains have provided glimpses into their characters. Captain Seven deserves a distinct and unforgettable warp command, one that she would likely prefer not to seek advice from the Spock portrayed in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
