Highlights
Although Roadhog's rework in Overwatch 2 has experienced a delay, it is still anticipated to become active prior to the conclusion of Season 7. The modifications will entail adjustments to both his primary fire and healing capability, along with the introduction of a fresh ability.
Sombra's rework during Season 7 has achieved great success by addressing the community's concerns regarding her perpetual invisibility. In addition, a new Virus projectile has been introduced to enhance her damage output.
Aaron Keller, the director of Overwatch 2, has expressed the team's aspiration to improve the survivability of support heroes. The goal is to tackle the challenge of eliminating support heroes while simultaneously ensuring that support players feel less exposed and vulnerable.
Tank players eagerly anticipating Roadhog's rework in Overwatch 2 will have to be patient for a little while longer. Currently in its seventh season, Overwatch 2 has reintroduced the beloved Halloween Terror game modes and introduced a new control map called Samoa. Additionally, the game has teamed up with Diablo 4 for a new PvE event called Trials of Sanctuary, featuring Moira as Lilith and Pharah as Inarius.
Another significant aspect of Overwatch 2's Season 7 is the highly anticipated overhaul of the DPS hacker, Sombra. Her ability to remain indefinitely invisible has caused frustration among players throughout the years. Coupled with her capability to teleport away when her health is low, she has been considered by many as the most aggravating hero to face off against. The rework addresses this issue by imposing stricter limitations on her Translocator, now automatically triggering her teleportation after being thrown. However, her indefinite invisibility largely remains unchanged. Moreover, Sombra has received a new Virus projectile that inflicts damage over time and can be combined with her Hack ability for additional damage.
In his recent Director's Take blog post, Aaron Keller, the director of Overwatch 2, acknowledged the popularity of the game's Halloween-themed co-op modes, including Trials of Sanctuary. He also highlighted the success of Sombra's rework. Additionally, Keller provided an update on the progress of Roadhog's rework, mentioning that it won't be ready for the mid-season patch but is expected to be implemented before the end of Season 7. Keller mentioned that players can anticipate changes to Roadhog's shotgun primary fire and his Take a Breather healing ability. Moreover, he teased a new ability for Roadhog, without revealing any further information.
Roadhog's high health pool in Overwatch 2 makes his Take a Breather ability a headache for opponents. However, with Roadhog being more present with his team instead of flanking, his extensive self-healing is no longer necessary. It is likely that Take a Breather will receive a significant nerf in the rework. Additionally, a new ability will be added to Roadhog's kit, while keeping his iconic chain hook.
Aaron Keller also acknowledged the state of support heroes and the team's intention to improve their survivability. Many players feel that opposing supports have become too difficult to eliminate. Whether this involves reducing the role's overall health regeneration or making changes to individual heroes, Keller assured support players that they will not feel as vulnerable as they did at the launch of Overwatch 2.
Expect to discover more about the upcoming changes to Roadhog and the support heroes at the imminent BlizzCon event. Furthermore, anticipate the exciting introduction of a new hero, potentially the latest Tank for Overwatch 2. Currently, Overwatch 2 can be enjoyed on various platforms including PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
