Big Brother star Memphis Garrett has officially filed for divorce from Christmas Abbott, his wife of less than two years. In court documents obtained by TMZ on March 1, Garrett cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their split. He is also requesting that the court does not grant Abbott any alimony, stating that she is employed and able to support herself.
Garrett, 41, expressed his sadness, saying, "My heart hurts." He mentioned that he did not want to file for divorce and was trying his best to save their marriage. He wished nothing but the best for his ex-wife Abbott and her son, Loyal.
Abbott, 42, also confirmed the split and requested privacy as she moves forward in her relationship.
"I am disappointed that the actions and intentions of those involved in this situation have resulted in the disclosure of personal and sensitive information," she said in a statement to Us. "I think that issues like this should be resolved in a private and respectful way. Right now, I kindly request privacy to concentrate on my family."
Garrett and Abbott crossed paths for the first time on Big Brother: All Stars in the summer of 2020. Their bond grew stronger within The Committee alliance, eventually evolving into a romantic relationship after the conclusion of filming.
Garrett shared with E! News in April 2021 that he realized he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her during the All Star season of Big Brother. He mentioned that from the first time he saw her years ago, he had a feeling that she was meant to be a part of his life, but he wasn't sure in what way. After spending a few weeks with her, he became certain that she was the one for him.
Memphis Garrett shared a post on his social media account. Two months later, he proposed to Abbott by getting down on one knee. In May 2022, the couple tied the knot at the State Railroad Museum in Savannah, Georgia.
"After meeting my husband, I realized that God had a plan all along," Abbott told E!. "I could see that everything I had gone through in life was leading me to him. When we finally met, I knew right away that he was the one for me. He is not just my partner, but also my best friend and my safe haven. I am grateful to have him in my life forever."
The couple kept sharing their love story on social media, with Garrett showing no indication of any issues in their marriage, even on Valentine's Day.
"We don't have any fun!" Garrett shared on Instagram on February 14, along with romantic videos of him and his wife. "We choose love every day and wouldn't have it any other way. #Final2Forever."
Following this, the couple decided to unfollow each other on Instagram, with Abbott also taking down photos of Garrett from her feed.
Editor's P/S:
The sudden divorce announcement between Big Brother stars Memphis Garrett and Christmas Abbott has left me with a sense of sadness and intrigue. Their whirlwind romance and seemingly blissful marriage, as portrayed on social media, seemed to abruptly end. The fact that Garrett filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences, and is requesting that no alimony be granted, raises questions about the circumstances that led to their split.
It's disheartening to see a relationship that once appeared so strong and filled with love dissolve so quickly. The couple's public statements expressing sadness and a desire for privacy are understandable, but they also leave room for speculation about what went wrong. It's a reminder that even in the most seemingly perfect relationships, challenges can arise that ultimately lead to separation.
