Ben Daniels, husband of Ian Gelder, shared a heartfelt tribute to the late Game of Thrones actor, who passed away at the age of 74.

In an Instagram post on Tuesday, May 7, Daniels expressed his immense sadness and announced the passing of his beloved husband and life partner, Ian Gelder. Ian had been battling bile duct cancer since December, and he peacefully passed away on Tuesday at 13.07.

Daniels shared that he had left his job to care for Gelder, but they never expected things to happen so quickly.

Reflecting on their relationship, Daniels described Gelder as his rock and partner of over 30 years. They were inseparable, speaking to each other every day. Gelder was known for his kindness, generosity, and loving nature. He was not only a talented actor but also touched the hearts of everyone he worked with. Daniels expressed his uncertainty about how he will move forward without Gelder by his side.

Daniels praised Gelder for his courageous battle against his illness, noting that he faced it with remarkable bravery and without any self-pity. He described Gelder as a remarkable person who will be greatly missed.

In addition to his heartfelt message, Daniels posted a selfie of the two of them standing in front of a beautifully decorated Christmas tree. Reflecting on the photo, Daniels recalled how he had taken Gelder out of the hospital during Christmas time. Despite the difficult three weeks Gelder had endured, his joy and love still shone through in the picture. Daniels bid farewell to his dear friend, Chianni, with a message of rest and love.

DPA Management, who represented Gelder, also paid tribute to the star on social media. They wrote on Tuesday, "It was a pleasure to represent Ian Gelder for the latter part of his career. The world will be a lesser place without him. Ian was such a lovely person and a wonderful actor. I know he will be hugely missed by all those that loved him and worked alongside him."

Gelder, known for his role as Kevan Lannister in 12 episodes of Games of Thrones, also appeared in other notable films and TV shows such as Doctor Who, Fifteen-Love, and His Dark Materials.

Before his passing, Gelder finished filming season 2 of Interview With the Vampire, set to premiere on AMC on Sunday, May 12. In this season, he will be playing the character of the vampire Santiago. Additionally, fans can look forward to seeing him in an upcoming appearance on season 2 of Prime Video's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power later this year.
