Bella Hadid's Inspiring Journey: Triumph Over Lyme Disease Unleashes Unforgettable Comeback

Gigi Hadid shed light on her sister Bella Hadid’s struggles with Lyme disease.

Taking to her Instagram Story on Tuesday, August 1, Gigi, 28, addressed Bella’s battle with the disease. Displaying a photo of the two at the LVMH Prize Edition Party in 2019, she wrote, “I wanted to touch upon this post from last week. Bella has recently completed a lengthy and intense treatment for Lyme disease… (I wanted to clarify that my post shouldn't be interpreted as a promise that she will return for shows in the upcoming season...) I am incredibly proud of her and eagerly await her comeback whenever she feels ready."

Over the years, Bella has been transparent about her battle with Lyme disease, which she was initially diagnosed with in 2012 at the age of 16. In March, she shared a TikTok video showcasing a flare-up she was experiencing following a root canal procedure that led to a tooth infection. In the video, she moved the camera back and forth while touching her face, illustrating the extent of the swelling.

In the accompanying caption, Bella revealed, "There was a mild infection beneath the tooth that was adjacent to the tooth I believed was the source of my discomfort. I had undergone a root canal on that tooth a year ago." She went on to explain that this infection triggered a Lyme disease flare-up, informing her audience that the illness was attacking various parts of her body, including her teeth, jaw, digestive system, brain, spine, bones, and entire nervous system.

In addition, she stated that any minor physical or mental trauma can trigger a flare-up of Lyme disease. While she is accustomed to experiencing these flare-ups, she expressed more concern about the intense pain in her jaw and how it radiates throughout her body due to her Lyme disease. She described the sudden severity of the pain as going from zero to one hundred.

Bella concluded her post by explaining that horseback riding helps her cope with the pain. She stated, "Riding makes me feel better! My horses really distract me from the pain."

The next day, Bella provided an update to her followers, expressing that she was feeling "alright." She continued to share the symptoms she experiences when she is overworked or feeling stressed. These symptoms include changes in her skin color, spontaneous breakouts, what seems like lesions, fatigue, chronic anxiety, lack of motivation or direction, leaky gut, adrenal problems, and depression.

Since having to get her tooth removed, Bella has not shared any updates on her symptoms.

Mom Yolanda Hadid and brother Anwar Hadid also suffer from Lyme disease.
