"Star Trek: Strange New Worlds celebrates the end of the actors' strike with a joyous behind-the-scenes video of the first-ever Star Trek musical episode, 'Subspace Rhapsody.'"
The 118-day long SAG-AFTRA strike has concluded, freeing actors to resume their work on films and TV endeavors, including the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds cast. Consequently, the production of season 3 for Strange New Worlds is now feasible, albeit the process may experience some delay until early 2024 due to the holiday season and the sluggish pace of Hollywood production.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds commemorates the conclusion of the actors' strike with a cheerful behind-the-scenes video of the inaugural Star Trek musical episode, "Subspace Rhapsody." After a 118-day duration, the SAG-AFTRA strike concluded on Thursday, November 9, at midnight, following the establishment of a tentative agreement worth over one billion dollars. Once the deal is ratified by SAG-AFTRA's members, it signifies that actors can resume their work in movies and TV projects, including the talented cast of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. On Twitter/X, Bill Wolkoff (@flying_lobster), the writer-producer of Strange New Worlds, who co-wrote the groundbreaking Star Trek musical episode, shared a behind-the-scenes video of the final musical performance for "Subspace Rhapsody." The video features Jess Bush (Nurse Christine Chapel), Celia Rose Gooding (Ensign Nyota Uhura), and Dan Jeannotte (Lt. Sam Kirk) energetically singing "We Are One," while Ethan Peck (Lt. Spock) and director Dermott Downs observe from the background. Wolkoff himself also partakes in the delightful moment. Watch the video below:
When Will Strange New Worlds Season 3 Release Now That Actors' Strike Is Over?
The final song of the Strange New Worlds musical, "We Are One", brought the curtains down with a bang. The exuberance of the cast was palpable as they let their hair down and gave it their all. What added to the charm of the performance was watching the background actors and stunt artists reveling in the unexpected spectacle within the USS Enterprise's Port Galley bar set.
Strange New Worlds season 2 left off with a big cliffhanger.
The resolution of the SAG-AFTRA strike signifies the green light for the initiation of production for season 3 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. However, this commencement will not occur immediately. The majority of the scripts for season 3 have already been penned, and work resumed once the settlement was reached for the Writer's Guild of America strike in late September. Initially, the production for Strange New Worlds season 3 was scheduled to commence in early May. Nevertheless, due to the upcoming holiday season, known to impede the pace of movie and TV productions in Hollywood, it is likely that the full resumption of Strange New Worlds season 3's production, featuring the actors returning to Toronto for filming, will not occur until early 2024.
While it is possible that Strange New Worlds season 3 may release in late 2024, it is more likely that the new season will not be available on Paramount+ until 2025. The second season of Strange New Worlds ended with a thrilling cliffhanger, as Captain Christopher Pike faced a no-win situation where Starfleet ordered him to retreat while the Gorn kidnapped members of the USS Enterprise's crew. Additionally, Captain Marie Batel's life is in danger after being infected by the Gorn. Although the wait for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 will be longer, it is assured that it will happen. In the meantime, enjoying the musical episode can help pass the time and make the wait feel shorter.
