Chris Foster, a contestant on season 36 of The Amazing Race, had to take a break during the second leg of the competition. "I was walking towards the bridge when suddenly, both of my calf muscles cramped up," Chris, who is 60 years old, shared with We on Thursday, March 21. This happened one day after he and his daughter, Mary Cardona-Foster, were eliminated from the CBS series.
Mary, who is 27 years old, couldn't believe what was happening. She exclaimed, "My jaw dropped. I was like, ‘Is this really happening?’"
During the episode on Wednesday, March 20, Chris didn't experience a muscle cramp. However, there was a scene where he felt nauseous and requested Mary to take a short break to rest.
Chris shared, "Our cameraman mentioned that we had walked around eight or nine miles that day with our heavy backpacks on. It was scorching hot, about 90 degrees, and I was feeling dehydrated."
Mary remained composed as they rested on a bench, and she explained how she managed to stay calm and focused during the intense competition.
"I wanted to push us to our limits without risking my dad's health. I mean, he's my dad. I want us to return home safely," she explained. "This opportunity is a once in a lifetime, and I wanted to ensure we made the most of it without any negative memories."
Mary mentioned that she found some moments on the show amusing, where it appeared she was just relaxing on vacation. However, she also expressed a desire to showcase her more competitive side.
Mary expressed that she still has a strong drive to compete. She mentioned that she is a very competitive individual in her work life. Mary shared that she always strives to do her best and felt a bit disappointed that this was not evident.

Chris added that his “only regret” is that Mary didn’t make it further in the competition.
"I hope Mary gets the chance to have a redemption season with someone closer to her age. I truly believe she is in great shape and could perform even better," he expressed.
Mary, who always had a close relationship with her father, revealed on The Amazing Race that her bond with Chris became even stronger after her mother passed away when she was 10. She mentioned to Us that competing on the show with her dad felt like a "full circle moment" as her mom was a fan of the reality competition series.
Mary shared that the first fan of their work was a close friend. She was the one who sparked their interest in it.
Chris expressed his excitement at the chance to discuss his late wife on TV with Mary. They were both overjoyed at the opportunity.
“We felt like we’re really honoring her,” he said. “We got her spirit and her image in front of a few million people.”
