Battlestar Galactica Reboot Receives a Thumbs-Up from Mr Robot Creator

Sam Esmail, the creator of Mr. Robot, recently shared updates on his upcoming Battlestar Galactica reboot. In a recent interview, he expressed excitement after reading "a fantastic outline" for the project. Despite his already packed schedule as a writer-producer-director-showrunner, Esmail continues to work on various successful TV shows such as Homecoming, Briarpatch, Gaslit, and The Resort.

Titled Leave the World Behind, his latest endeavor is an exceptional post-apocalypse film brimming with famous personalities. The movie is set to hit theaters next month, followed by its release on Netflix in December.

Last night, the highly anticipated film had its grand premiere at AFI Fest in Los Angeles. Amidst the glitz and glamour of the red carpet, Esmail provided an exciting update about another project he's currently involved in.

Following its initial success in the late 1970s and subsequent 2004 reboot, Battlestar Galactica is set to return once again in a new TV version for Peacock, courtesy of Sam Esmail.

When asked about the progress of his BSG, Esmail stated to Deadline, "I can't comment on the movie adaptation, but we are actively working on the TV series. In fact, I have recently reviewed an impressive outline, and it's in excellent form. With the WGA strike concluded, our development efforts are back on track."

What is Leave the World Behind?

Under Ronald D. Moore's supervision, Battlestar Galactica had its previous iteration. Prior to taking on the reboot project, Esmail assured Collider that he aims to honor Moore's Battlestar Galactica, stating, "It's an expansive universe, a vast world, and I want to pay homage to Ronald Moore's work. I made sure to consult with him beforehand to ensure his approval, as the last thing I want is to encroach on his territory." Both Moore and Esmail concurred that their intention is not to replicate Moore's original work, as they mutually desired a fresh approach.

Sam Esmail serves as the writer and director of Leave the World Behind, a film that tells the story of a family vacation on Long Island, which is unexpectedly disrupted by two unfamiliar individuals who bring news of an enigmatic blackout. As the danger becomes increasingly imminent, both families are confronted with the challenge of determining the most effective way to survive the potential crisis, all while struggling to come to terms with their own roles within this crumbling world.
