Is Barbie 2 in the works? Here's the latest on the potential sequel to the highly successful 2023 film. Barbie surpassed all expectations with its captivating story and stellar cast including Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. Directed by Greta Gerwig, the movie followed the iconic toy as she navigated through the real world, shedding light on the Mattel company and the essence of girlhood. And of course, the beloved Ken is also part of the journey.
In our five-star movie review, we described "Barbie" as an enigmatic film that provides a thoughtful and loving experience for adults despite being intended for children. It manages to be comforting without pandering, making it a personal and existential experience. Despite being a summer blockbuster, the possibility of a sequel remains open, leaving us to wonder what it could entail.
Is there going to be a Barbie 2?
Barbie 2 hasn’t been confirmed – but it likely won’t happen, despite demand for a sequel.
Margot Robbie has discussed the possibility of a sequel to Greta Gerwig’s #Barbie, stating that it could take many different directions. However, she cautioned against trying to set up a first movie while also planning for sequels.
According to Gerwig's recent comments to The New York Times, the possibility of a Barbie sequel is becoming increasingly unlikely. She stated, "I wouldn't want to squash anybody else's dream but for me, at this moment, I'm at totally zero."
Margot Robbie expressed doubt about the possibility of 'BARBIE 2', stating, "I think we put everything into this one. We didn't build it to be a trilogy or something." (Source: @APEntertainment) pic.twitter.com/Lt82Pw5FtH

Is there a Barbie 2 release date?
There is currently no release date for Barbie 2, as it is not yet in development. If a sequel is greenlit, it may take some time before it hits theaters, as the first film took 14 years from concept to completion. While the second movie would not take as long, the script development and coordination of cast availability could delay its release until the 2020s.
Who would star in the Barbie 2 cast?
As of now, there is no confirmation of a sequel being in production, therefore the cast list remains unconfirmed. However, if a Barbie 2 were to be developed, it is likely that many of the original actors would be returning. This may include, but is not limited to:
Margot Robbie as Barbie
Ryan Gosling as Ken
Helen Mirren as The Narrator
Will Ferrell as the Mattel CEO
America Ferrera as Gloria
Ariana Greenblatt as Sasha
Rhea Perlman stars as Ruth Handler, the creator of Barbie. If a sequel were to happen, Robbie could potentially return to the role. Alternatively, the sequel could introduce a new set of Barbies with a new cast, as no one is obligated to return for a sequel.

Editor's P/S
As a hard fan of the Barbie movie, I am thrilled to hear about the potential sequel, Barbie 2. The first movie was a delightful surprise, exceeding all expectations with its captivating story and stellar cast. Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling brought Barbie and Ken to life in a way that was both nostalgic and refreshing. The film's thoughtful exploration of girlhood and the Mattel company added depth and resonance to the iconic toy's journey.
While the news that a sequel is unlikely is disappointing, I understand the filmmakers' desire to focus on creating a standalone masterpiece rather than rushing into a sequel. The first movie was a labor of love that took 14 years to complete, and I believe it's essential to give the sequel the time and attention it deserves. I trust that if a Barbie 2 does come to fruition, it will be worth the wait and continue the legacy of the first film.
