Highlights
Baldur's Gate 3 continues to break records on Steam, reaching new heights with consecutive weekends of increased concurrent player totals.
Baldur's Gate 3 has defied expectations on Steam by maintaining impressive numbers even after its launch, which is uncommon for most games that experience a peak shortly after release. Although it didn't reach the top of Steam's list, the game's steady growth and popularity have surpassed all predictions.
Baldur's Gate 3 has achieved a significant milestone on Steam, once again surpassing its previous record for concurrent players for the second consecutive weekend. Since its full release on August 3, Baldur's Gate 3 has impressed everyone by securing a spot in Steam's top 10 games based on peak concurrent player numbers. Unlike most games that experience a sharp decline after launch, Baldur's Gate 3 has continued to thrive, further solidifying its remarkable success.
Following its Thursday launch on August 3, Baldur's Gate 3 witnessed a continuous increase in its concurrent player count until Sunday, August 6. On that day, it reached a staggering peak of 814,666 players, propelling Baldur's Gate 3 to the 9th position overall on Steam's leaderboard. It surpassed Goose Goose Duck but was positioned below Hogwarts Legacy, which is set to release in 2023.
Now,
Baldur's Gate 3 showcased its impressive performance this past weekend. On Sunday, August 13, the game reached a peak of 875,343 concurrent players. This represents a remarkable surge of over 60,000 players, equating to a 7% increase. It is noteworthy that a predominantly single-player RPG like Baldur's Gate 3 not only maintains such impressive concurrent player numbers but also manages to elevate them. This accomplishment is truly rare and impressive.
Regrettably, Baldur's Gate 3 did not climb higher on Steam's top 10 games list despite an increase in concurrent players. Baldur's Gate 3 falls slightly short of Hogwarts Legacy's peak of 879,308 players, with New World just surpassing it at 913,634. It is expected that Baldur's Gate 3 will remain in the 9th position, unless there is an unforeseen and unprecedented third week of growth.
There were expectations that Baldur's Gate 3 would gain even more popularity within the gaming community. Some enthusiasts even attempted to organize a collective effort to play the game simultaneously in order to push the concurrent player count to a million. Although the community did not achieve that milestone, they should still be pleased with the accomplishments of Baldur's Gate 3.
Larian Studios is pleased with the success of Baldur's Gate 3. The development team did not anticipate the game's tremendous popularity during early access. CEO Swen Vinke expresses the team's happiness and mentions the positive atmosphere at Larian. Despite this, the studio continues to dedicate efforts to polishing Baldur's Gate 3 after its launch. They are currently preparing for the PlayStation 5 release on September 6, with plans for an Xbox version in the works. Baldur's Gate 3 is currently available on PC, and the PS5 version will be released on September 6.
