A group of reality TV stars, including a former Bachelor, two Survivor winners, three Challenge alums, and four Housewives, enter a castle in Scotland. What could possibly go wrong?
The upcoming season 2 of Peacock's The Traitors airs on Friday, January 12, and the trailer hints at numerous unexpected twists and strategic gameplay. One particular moment from the preview, featuring a confrontation between The Real Housewives of Atlanta alum Phaedra Parks and season 24 Bachelor Peter Weber, has already caused a buzz online. In the clip, Parks boldly states, "This is not The Bachelor, and I don't have to kiss your ass for a rose."
"I couldn't wait to meet her," said MTV's Trishelle Cannatella during a joint interview with Weber and Love Island's Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu. "But I was also terrified of her and didn't know how to act around her. She surprised me because she's actually a warm person. Well, Peter might have a different experience, but I liked Phaedra."
Weber, 32, laughed at his costar's assessment. "That trailer, man, the comments on that, wow," he told Us. "I had a great time with Phaedra. We had an up and down relationship. I've seen her a bunch on TV, so it was very cool to play with her, and she's a sweetheart -- for the most part. So, it was good."
The reality stars on The Traitors are in for a shock as they try to uncover the "murderer" among them at night. Fans will witness a new side of Weber, who revealed that his experience on the ABC dating show did not prepare him at all for the unpredictable competition series.
"I quickly learned that this show was the complete opposite of The Bachelor, which I loved. The Bachelor relied on emotions and following your heart, while this show required total detachment from emotion and a purely mental approach. It was completely different, with no similarities, but I enjoyed it immensely." Cülcüloğlu, 29, also came from a dating show, and felt that Love Island prepared her better for this experience.
"On Love Island, I had a knack for reading people's minds and could easily tell who was genuine, who was playing the game, and who was faking it. Taking the traits and qualities from Love Island, I applied them to this game, although, as Peter mentioned, this is a totally different environment. It's not about bikinis and sunbathing; it's a castle with eerie Harry Potter vibes and everyone is suspicious of everyone else. It's disorienting and makes you feel paranoid, unsure of who to trust. It's almost maddening, but I enjoy these kinds of dark mind games. It's a good mental challenge because everyone plays mind games nowadays, right? It's unfortunate that you're manipulated every day, but it was still fun, especially with a great cast and the opportunity to make new friends."
Cannatella, 44, has extensive experience in competition, having appeared on five seasons of The Challenge after her initial stint on The Real World: Las Vegas (2002). The Traitors brought her back together with former co-stars Chris "CT" Tamburello and Johnny "Bananas" Devenanzio.
"When I saw CT and Bananas, I couldn't help but wonder why out of all the people in MTV, these two were chosen. Our history isn't the best, CT and Bananas and I. So, I felt like it put me at a disadvantage, to be honest," she told Us. Tamburello, on the other hand, maintained that he didn't have any preexisting issues with Cannatella.
“I had no idea that Trishelle and I had this drama between us,” he said in a separate interview with Us. "Our Real World seasons aired one after the other before we met on The Inferno in 2004. We were young and I didn't understand the dynamic on Traitors, of how we were supposed to get along. But I don't think she had any animosity towards me. So, for me, entering this new chapter in my life and doing the show, seeing familiar faces like Trishelle and Bananas, it felt like a safe space for me. I hope they both continue to be a space for me."
