Avatar 2 cast: All actors and characters
Many people joke about how successful Avatar was, yet no one can remember the characters' names. We want to help by providing a guide to the cast and characters in Avatar 2. The official synopsis details the story of the Sully family and the challenges they face a decade after the first film's events.
Jake Sully: Sam Worthington
20th Century Studios
Sam Worthington reprises his role as Jake Sully in Avatar, where he initially appeared as a human before embracing the Na’vi way of life and leaving his human form behind to join them for good. Besides Avatar, he is recognized for his performances in Terminator Salvation, Everest, Clash of the Titans, and as Alex Mason in Call of Duty: Black Ops.
Neytiri: Zoe Saldaña
20th Century Studios
Zoe Saldaña returns as Neytiri, the future Tsahìk of her clan and Jake's husband, with whom she shares children in the sequel. "I hope it's well-received because it was truly special for me to be a part of it and to have worked with the people I've worked with, to age with them and grow with them in this industry. The opportunities that it opened for me, but also the conversations that it started, even for someone like me, about the environment," she said in an interview with Good Morning America.
Saldaña is perhaps best known for playing Gamora in The Guardians of the Galaxy movies in the MCU. She is the second-highest-grossing actress of all time.
Kiri: Sigourney Weaver
In the sequel to the original film, Sigourney Weaver takes on the role of Kiri, the daughter of Jake and Neytiri. This is a departure from her previous character, Dr. Grace Augustine, who met her demise during the RDA assault on Hometree.
In an interview with Empire, Weaver expressed, "I believe we all remember the emotions of adolescence. I certainly do. Standing at 5' 10" or 5' 11" at 11 years old, I strongly felt that Kiri would often feel awkward as she was discovering her identity. I was excited to take on that challenge given by Jim." Known for her roles in the Alien franchise, Ghostbusters, and more, Weaver is an Oscar-nominated actress.
Spider: Jack Champion
20th Century Studios
Jack Champion portrays Spider, a human who was born on Pandora after the departure of the RDA following the events of the initial film.
Spider was raised among the Na'vi and spent time in the labs with Norm and Max, while forming a bond with Jake and Neytiri's children.
Neteyam: James Flatters
Despite Jake's belief that Neytiri will always see him as "an alien", their children (Neteyam, Lo’ak, Tuk, and Kiri, whom they adopted) view him as a cousin, if not a brother.
Playing the role of Neteyam, the eldest son of Jake and Neytiri, is James Flatters. He shared with Screen Rant, "He’s the kid that tries to take on the highest moral virtue, which is kind of, in this rough terrain, especially given that within this film we’re going to see the humans come back."
"The RDA are constantly attempting to disrupt the Na’vi, as usual. Neteyam is stepping up to the challenge of becoming a warrior, and it’s a fascinating story. It’s quite enjoyable to portray this role."
Lo’ak: Britain Dalton
In the movie 20th Century Studios, Britain Dalton portrays Lo’ak, the youngest Na’vi son of Jake and Neytiri. He is known for constantly rebelling against his father’s orders, falling in love with Reya, and forming a strong bond with the outcast Tulkun, Payakan.
Tuk: Trinity Jo-Li Bliss
20th Century Studios
Trinity Jo-Li Bliss portrays Tuk, the youngest daughter of Jake and Sully in Avatar 2. In an interview with Screen Rant, she described Tuk as having a big heart and being very curious, always observing everything around her. Tuk is depicted as the youngest daughter who desires harmony within her family and is willing to do anything to protect them, making the theme of family unity and protection a significant aspect of the film.
Colonel Miles Quaritch: Stephen Lang
20th Century Studios
Colonel Miles Quaritch, portrayed by Stephen Lang, makes a comeback as the primary antagonist in Avatar 2. Despite being killed in the first film by Jake and Neytiri, he returns as a "Recombinant" - a Na'vi body with his consciousness.
Corporal Lyle Wainfleet: Matt Gerald
Although Lang has had a lengthy career appearing in films such as Manhunter, Tombstone, and Public Enemies, he is most widely recognized for his role as "The Blind Man" in the Don't Breathe movies.
In the upcoming film from 20th Century Studios, Matt Gerald reprises his role as Lyle Wainfleet, an RDA soldier who was killed during the Na’vi retaliation in the first movie. His memories have been transferred to a Na’vi body, granting him a new lease on life.
Gerald earlier appeared in Netflix’s Daredevil, Bright, and San Andreas.
Ronal: Kate Winslet
20th Century Studios
Kate Winslet’s role in Avatar 2 as Ronal, a freediver in the oceanic Metkayina clan, has been highly anticipated. Despite the relatively brief duration of her role compared to the lengthy shoot, she emphasized the pivotal nature of her character in the ongoing story, stating, “Whilst my role is actually relatively small comparative to the lengthy shoot (I will only have around one month with Jim and the principal actors), it is a pivotal character in the ongoing story,” to Variety.
One of Winslet’s most famous roles is in another James Cameron movie: Titanic, playing Rose.
Tonowari: Cliff Curtis
In 20th Century Studios, Cliff Curtis portrays Tonowari, the chief of the Metkayina clan and the husband of Ronal. "I truly believe it will be one of the most extraordinary cinematic experiences I've ever had. I don't think the world is really prepared for what's about to happen. It's incredibly thrilling," he told The Hollywood Reporter.
Curtis has appeared in Sunshine, Training Day, The Meg, and Doctor Sleep.
Reya: Bailey Bass
Bailey Bass takes on the role of "Reya", a free diver from the Metkayina clan and the daughter of Ronal and Tonowari. She finds herself drawn to Lo'ak soon after the arrival of Jake and Neytiri.
Mo’at: CCH Pounder
"She mentioned that she felt it was a gradual process for her, rather than an instantaneous change. Observing his determination throughout the movie and how rapidly he picks up on the water techniques she's teaching him, contributed to this gradual evolution. Additionally, she found his rebellious nature fascinating," she shared with Screen Rant.
20th Century Studios
CCH Pounder has returned as Mo’at, the mother of Neytiri and spiritual leader of the Omaticaya.
Norm Spellman: Joel David Moore
The actress has earned four Emmy nominations for her performances in The X-Files, ER, The Shield, and The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency, and has also appeared in Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Face/Off.
20th Century Studios
Dr. Norm Spellman, portrayed by Joel David Moore, reprises his role as one of the researchers from the original Avatar program. He ultimately aligns himself with the Na’vi by the conclusion of the movie.
Moore is known for starring in Dodgeball, Hatchet, and The Guest.
Parker Selfridge: Giovanni Ribisi
Giovanni Ribisi returns as Parker Selfridge, the determined and unobtanium-driven executive leading the RDA’s mining and colonization venture in the original movie. Speaking with Screen Rant, he remarked that the sequel "elevates what [James Cameron] accomplished with the first film to an entirely new standard."
Ribisi is known for roles in Lost in Translation, Sneaky Pete, Ted, Friends, and The Offer.
General Frances Ardmore: Edie Falco
20th Century Studios
Edie Falco joined Avatar 2 as General Frances Ardmore, described as “the Commander in charge of the RDA’s interests in the Avatar Sequels.”
Falco is best known for playing Carmela Soprano in The Sopranos, as well as Nurse Jackie Peyton in Nurse Jackie.
Dr. Ian Garvin: Jemaine Clement
Dr. Ian Garvin in Avatar 2 will be played by Jemaine Clement. Cameron expressed his excitement, stating "I've loved Jemaine's work for years and I'm really pumped that he's joining our cast as Ian Garvin, one of my favorite characters," to Variety.
Dr. Karina Mogue: Michelle Yeoh
Jemaine Clement is most recognized for his collaboration with Bret McKenzie in Flight of the Conchords. He has also made appearances in popular films such as DC League of Super Pets, The Lego Batman Movie, Moana, and What We Do In The Shadows.
Michelle Yeoh's star power is undeniable as she joins the cast of the Avatar franchise. Her buzzworthy performance in Everything Everywhere All At Once only adds to the anticipation for her role as Dr. Karina Mogue in Avatar 3. Though absent from Avatar 2, her presence in the third installment is highly anticipated.
"I am part of the Avatar sequels, but we're not allowed to say much about it," she shared with Entertainment Weekly. "But it's James Cameron! I would do anything for James Cameron! We filmed for a few weeks and I was amazed by his work, his energy, and his genius. I loved the experience and I'm looking forward to returning soon."
Vin Diesel
Vin Diesel's involvement with Avatar 2 was a source of speculation, especially after he posted a video with James Cameron on the set. Although it was initially believed that he would appear in Avatar 2 or 3, it has now been confirmed that he will not be joining the Avatar franchise after all.

Editor's P/S
As a Gen Z fan, I am incredibly excited about the release of Avatar 2: The Way of Water. The first Avatar movie was a groundbreaking cinematic experience, and I can't wait to see what James Cameron has in store for us this time around. The cast looks amazing, and I'm especially looking forward to seeing Sigourney Weaver in a new role. I think it's really cool that she's playing Kiri, the daughter of Jake and Neytiri. It'll be interesting to see how her character develops over the course of the film.
I also think it's great that Jack Champion is playing Spider, a human who was born on Pandora. It'll be interesting to see how he interacts with the Na'vi and how he fits into their society. Overall, I have high hopes for Avatar 2: The Way of Water. I think it's going to be an amazing movie, and I can't wait to see it!
