Ubisoft will address criticism of chromatic aberration in Assassin's Creed Mirage with an upcoming patch, making it an optional visual effect.
The upcoming patch will feature a toggling option in the settings menu to deactivate chromatic aberration, which will be turned off as the default setting.
In early 2024, the update will be made available for all platforms, including the iOS version of Assassin's Creed Mirage on the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max.
Ubisoft has confirmed that the upcoming update for Assassin's Creed Mirage will offer the option to disable chromatic aberration, addressing the complaints from the fandom. The company has now committed to a specific time frame for implementing this fix.
Chromatic aberration is a physical phenomenon that causes noticeable color distortion along certain object edges. It occurs when light rays passing through a lens with significant wavelength differences converge at multiple points, particularly in high-contrast situations. While this effect is generally undesirable in real-life photography, some visually stunning games intentionally utilize it, also known as color fringing. Unfortunately, Assassin's Creed Mirage followed this trend, much to the disappointment of a vocal group of fans who felt that the color fringing detracted from the game's otherwise impressive visuals.
Ubisoft has confirmed that the forthcoming update for Assassin's Creed Mirage will address the previous criticism by incorporating the previously promised chromatic aberration toggle into the settings menu. Furthermore, a representative from the studio revealed on the official Assassin's Creed Discord server that this option will be deactivated by default once the upcoming patch is released. The update is expected to be rolled out towards the end of October, according to the same source.
The upcoming patch will mark the third update for the game since it was launched on October 5. Assassin's Creed Mirage was recently updated to version 1.0.4, but no significant changes were introduced. Interestingly, Ubisoft confirmed that the upcoming fix will be available for all platforms, indicating that even the iOS version will have the option to disable chromatic aberration. This is especially relevant for the iOS version of Assassin's Creed Mirage, which was announced during Apple's September product event where they unveiled the iPhone 15 lineup. Mirage will be compatible with the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, both equipped with Apple's latest A17 Pro system-on-chip, and is expected to be released in the first half of 2024.
Historically, Assassin's Creed games either steered clear of using chromatic aberration extensively or provided an option to disable this effect upon release. Considering the swift response from Ubisoft Bordeaux towards the negative feedback regarding color fringing in Mirage, the absence of a chromatic aberration toggle in the game's initial version may have simply been an oversight.
Assassin's Creed Mirage is currently accessible for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Additionally, an iPhone 15 Pro port is set to be released in the first half of 2024.
