Ashlee Simpson is making a comeback in the world of acting with a unique twist on the classic whodunit mystery genre. QVC+'s film, The Recipe Files, is not only filled with thrilling suspense but also sprinkled with holiday cheer and delicious delights.
In an exclusive first look, We reveals that in the seemingly ordinary town of Shady Oaks, appearances can be deceiving.
That distinction appears to apply to Kate (Simpson) and her brother, Ben (Doug Noble) as well, especially initially, as they commemorate their first Christmas without their mother and renowned town baker and chocolate maker, Betty.

Ben comments on the pleasant scent in his sister's chocolate shop as he enters, to which Kate responds by cautioning that smells can be misleading. Kate admits that without their mother's recipes, she is struggling to achieve the perfect taste of chocolate.
Curious about their mother's failure to document her recipes, Ben and Kate contemplate the reason behind it. Meanwhile, a woman named Isabel, portrayed by Morgan Bradley, unexpectedly acquires the dilapidated bakery in Shady Oaks without having seen it beforehand. Isabel quickly becomes entangled in a perplexing enigma that encompasses concealed codes, delectable recipes, and the potential for murder.
Isabel inquires Ben about his mother's use of code while discovering Betty's recipe book at the nearby thrift shop. She speculates that Ben's mother might have been poisoned.
Nonetheless, Ben is skeptical about the possibility of foul play. He humorously advises Isabel to refrain from randomly accusing the town's inhabitants of murder, comparing her to Nancy Drew.

In the trailer, Ben and Kate collaborate with Isabel to unravel the mystery surrounding Betty's homicide — leading to the entire town and its inhabitants being considered as potential culprits. While Ben and Kate are exempt from suspicion, Sheriff Ethan (Sid O’Connell) and even the proprietor of the thrift shop, Darcy (Suzanne R. Neff), come under scrutiny.
According to the network's press release, Isabel is determined to solve the case before the holidays, hoping that her efforts won't end in catastrophe. Premiering on the streaming site on Friday, November 24, The Recipe Files is Simpson's first film since 2014 and an original QVC+ holiday movie.
