A suspect has been apprehended in connection with the investigation into the murder of Detroit synagogue president Samantha Woll in October, according to a statement from the Detroit Police Department on Sunday night. Further details regarding the individual have not been released in order to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation, but the department has indicated that more information will be made available in the near future. This development comes after a previous individual who was detained in relation to Woll's death was released without charges last month.
The board president of the Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue, Woll, was discovered with several stab wounds in front of her home on October 21, according to police. A law enforcement source involved in the investigation had indicated that her death was believed to be the result of a domestic dispute rather than an act of extremism.
Despite Woll's prominence in the Jewish community, there is no evidence to suggest that her killing was motivated by antisemitism, as previously stated by Detroit Police Chief James E. White. However, the violent events, including Hamas' attacks on Israel and the resulting violence, have deeply affected and shaken members of the Jewish community.
White mentioned in October that the police had "several individuals who are of interest," but did not disclose any additional information. The police have also indicated that they believe the perpetrator acted alone.

The police chief stated that there is no evidence to suggest that the fatal stabbing of Detroit synagogue leaders was motivated by antisemitism. According to police interviews, the victim had been acting normal and pleasant just hours prior to her death at a wedding. She showed no signs of distress or discomfort.
During a funeral service earlier this year, loved ones reflected on Woll's compassion, generosity, and commitment to assisting others.
"Your spirit was truly pure and beautiful," spoke Monica Woll Rosen, Woll's younger sister, as she stood beside her white casket. "You had a deep desire for peace in this world. You advocated for everyone, no matter their background. You exemplified true leadership."
Woll's dedication to the Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue was evident through her role as president of the board, involvement in the ritual committee, efforts towards the renovation and reopening of the building, and leadership in fundraising, among other responsibilities, as remembered by Rabbi Ariana Silverman at her funeral. This story is ongoing and will be continued to be updated.
