A suspect is in custody following a series of homicides and shootings in two Texas communities on Tuesday, which resulted in six deaths and three injuries, including two police officers. Authorities announced the arrest during news conferences in Austin and Bexar County.
Austin Interim Police Chief Robin Henderson stated on Tuesday night that the male suspect has been charged with capital murder, and additional charges are still pending. The suspect has not been publicly identified by the police.
The man reportedly murdered two individuals in a San Antonio-area home on Tuesday, then proceeded to injure an officer from the Austin Independent School District before fatally shooting a man and woman, according to investigators. He then allegedly targeted a man on a bicycle and opened fire on an Austin police officer who had responded to a burglary call at a different home, where two individuals were later discovered dead, as reported by the Austin Police.
Henderson stressed on Tuesday that it was only after the last incident occurred, following the male suspect's arrest, that APD and other law enforcement established a connection between these events.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
