Arnold Schwarzenegger's Role in Spoiling the Plans for Twins 2: Danny DeVito's Perspective

Discover how Arnold Schwarzenegger's unexpected involvement derailed the plans for the highly anticipated Twins sequel, Triplets, as revealed by Danny DeVito Find out what went wrong in this captivating article

Article Overview

Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger missed their chance to make a Twins sequel due to Schwarzenegger becoming governor.

Producer Jason Reitman also hindered the production of the anticipated Triplets film, which was supposed to star Tracy Morgan as another sibling who had been previously unknown.

At present, DeVito and Schwarzenegger are collaborating on a different film, but it should be noted that it is not a continuation of the Twins storyline.

Danny DeVito recently disclosed how Arnold Schwarzenegger sabotaged the plans for Twins 2. Despite Schwarzenegger's success as a renowned action movie star, he showcased his comedic talent by portraying the uptight Julius alongside DeVito, who flawlessly portrayed his charmingly rogue brother Vincent, in the 1988 film Twins. Directed by Ivan Reitman, this amusing comedy earned a staggering $216 million worldwide. Surprisingly, despite its popularity, a sequel to this beloved movie never materialized, and recent attempts to create one have failed.

However, the recent endeavor to create a follow-up to Twins was not the first time that Schwarzenegger and DeVito contemplated revisiting their iconic characters. In an interview with GQ, DeVito disclosed that he and Schwarzenegger had expressed their desire to make Twins 2 years ago, but encountered obstacles due to political reasons. Below are DeVito's statements on the subject.

And then Arnold Schwarzenegger and I are hoping to collaborate. We unfortunately missed out on Twins 2, as he opted to become governor instead, although it would have been great if he had chosen Twins 2. However, we currently have an ongoing discussion about a small project.

Triplets Would Have Been A Great Twins Sequel (But Jason Reitman Blew It Up)

Arnold Schwarzenegger's Role in Spoiling the Plans for Twins 2: Danny DeVito's Perspective

Due to his political ambitions, DeVito and Schwarzenegger missed their opportunity to create Twins 2 several years ago. However, they later received another chance with the planned Triplets movie. Originally, Eddie Murphy was meant to star as the twins' long-lost brother, but Tracy Morgan was eventually cast as the third member of the titled triplets. Regrettably, the project never materialized, and Schwarzenegger himself attributes the failure to producer Jason Reitman, as he revealed to THR in May.

Jason Reitman ruined it! He halted the project after his father's death, despite his father's strong desire to see it through. I, too, had a strong desire to do it, as did Danny DeVito. We had the necessary funding in place. However, once his father passed away, Jason suddenly claimed, "I never liked the idea," and put everything on hold. I am currently working on another film with Danny, who is not only extremely talented but also a joy to collaborate with. The details of Schwarzengger and DeVito's new project remain unknown, but DeVito confirmed to GQ that it is not another attempt at Twins 2. Unfortunately, it seems that Julius and Vincent have missed their best opportunities to reunite on-screen and continue their wild adventures that began in 1988. Hopefully, these stars will have another chance to work together in a new project that allows them to showcase the incredible chemistry they displayed as the most unlikely of siblings all those years ago.

Editor's P/S

As a Gen Z netizen, I grew up watching classic 80s and 90s movies, and "Twins" is definitely one of my favorites. The on-screen chemistry between Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger was simply hilarious, and I would have loved to see them reunite for a sequel.

However, it's clear from the article that there were a number of factors that prevented "Twins 2" from happening, including Schwarzenegger's political ambitions and the death of Ivan Reitman. While it's disappointing that we never got to see the sequel, I'm still grateful for the original movie, which remains a timeless comedy classic.
