An Inside Look at the 2024 Critics Choice Awards: Nominees, Host, and Beyond

The nominations for the 2024 Critics Choice Awards affirm the dominance of the Barbie movie, with Greta Gerwig's pop culture phenomenon receiving an impressive 18 nominations. These include Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress for Margot Robbie, Best Supporting Actor for Ryan Gosling, and Best Supporting Actress for America Ferrera.

The Critics Choice Association (CCA) revealed on Wednesday, December 13th, that Barbie has set a new record for the highest number of nominations by any film at a single awards ceremony in the organization's 29-year history. Everything Everywhere All at Once from 2022 and The Shape of Water from 2017 were previously tied for the most nominations, with 14 each in their respective years.

Which Movies Were Nominated for the 2024 Critics Choice Awards?

Barbie has been nominated for Best Original Song three times, with "Dance the Night," "I'm Just Ken," and "What Was I Made For?" Oppenheimer, a competing film, has received 13 nominations, including a nomination for Best Picture.

Poor Things is also in the running with 13 nominations and will compete against Barbie and Oppenheimer for Best Picture. Other contenders in the category include American Fiction, The Color Purple, Killers of the Flower Moon, The Holdovers, Maestro, Past Lives, and Saltburn.

Nominated for Best Actor are Bradley Cooper for his role in Maestro, Leonardo DiCaprio for Killers of the Flower Moon, Colman Domingo for Rustin, Paul Giamatti for The Holdovers, Cillian Murphy for Oppenheimer and Jeffrey Wright for American Fiction.

The Best Actress category will see Robbie competing against Lily Gladstone (Killers of the Flower Moon), Sandra Hüller (Anatomy of a Fall), Greta Lee (Past Lives), Carey Mulligan (Maestro), and Emma Stone (Poor Things).

What TV Shows Topped the 2024 Critics Choice Awards Nominations?

The Morning Show has received six nominations, including Best Drama Series and Best Actress in a Drama Series for Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon. Succession is also nominated for Best Drama Series, with Kieran Culkin and Jeremy Strong earning nominations for Best Actor in a Drama Series.

Other nominees in the Best Drama Series category are The Crown, The Diplomat, The Last of Us, Loki, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty.

Competing for the title of Best Comedy Series are Abbott Elementary, Barry, The Bear, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Poker Face, Reservation Dogs, Shrinking, and What We Do in the Shadows. The nominees for Best Actor in a Comedy Series include Bill Hader for Barry, Steve Martin for Only Murders in the Building, and Jeremy Allen White for The Bear.

The category for Best Actress in a Comedy Series features some well-known talent, such as Quinta Brunson from Abbott Elementary, Natasha Lyonne from Poker Face, and Rachel Brosnahan from The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
