American Tourist Tragically Killed by Elephant During Safari in Zambia
Tragedy struck in Zambia as an 80-year-old American tourist lost her life when an elephant charged at a vehicle carrying visitors in Kafue National Park. The fatal incident occurred during a safari expedition, highlighting the dangers of wildlife encounters in the African wilderness.
An 80-year-old American woman tragically lost her life in Zambia when an elephant attacked a vehicle carrying tourists in Kafue National Park. Another woman was injured in the incident and was transported to a medical facility in South Africa. The conservation and hospitality company Wilderness, responsible for the trip, shared this information in a statement released on Tuesday.
Four additional individuals sustained minor injuries during the incident.
According to Wilderness Chief Executive Officer Keith Vincent, a bull elephant unexpectedly charged at the vehicle carrying six guests and a guide during a game drive to view wildlife.
"Our guides are highly skilled and experienced. Unfortunately, the terrain and vegetation in this particular situation caused a blockage in the guide's route. This made it difficult for him to move the vehicle to safety in time," Vincent explained.

“This is a tragic event and we extend our deepest condolences to the family of the guest who died,” he said.
“We are also, naturally, supporting those guests and the guide involved in this distressing incident,” he added.
The deceased woman has not been named.
A helicopter was dispatched to the scene and authorities are investigating.
Zambia is popular with safari travelers thanks to a number of national parks and the quality of its guides.
Kafue National Park is the biggest in the country, housing over 200 animal species. It is famous for its lion and leopard sightings, along with a wide variety of antelope species, some of which are not often seen in other places.
This is not the first time an American tourist has died at the park.
In September 2016, Bianca Rudolph was found dead in her hunting cabin after a fatal shotgun blast.
In August 2023, her husband, Lawrence Rudolph, was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his wife of 30 years.
