American Detained in Russia on Drug Charges, Moscow Court Reports

US citizen arrested in Moscow on drug charges, says Moscow court

A US national has been taken into custody in Moscow for alleged drug offenses, as stated in an official announcement made on Tuesday. The individual, identified as Robert Woodland, is facing charges of planning and attempting to commit a crime, along with illicit drug trafficking.

The Russian courts statement on January 6, 2024, revealed that Woodland Robert Romanov has been detained for a period of 2 months by the resolution of the Ostankino District Court of Moscow, until March 5, 2024.

According to the pro-Kremlin tabloid Komosomolskaya Pravda, Woodland is a US citizen of Russian descent who was adopted by American scientists and returned to Russia after 27 years.

Last month, Russian-US dual national Yuri Malev was arrested in St. Petersburg on charges of displaying disrespect towards the military and promoting Nazism in his social media posts, according to the Smolninsky District Court. This arrest is part of a pattern of detentions of US citizens and dual nationals in Russia, including Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, who the US considers to be detained unjustly.

This is a developing story. It will be updated.
