Alison Brie had never wanted to get married until she met her husband Dave Franco.
During a recent episode of the “Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast on Tuesday, March 19, the 41-year-old actress, known for her role in Community, shared that the idea of marriage used to worry her because she didn't envision herself having children. "I used to go around saying, 'I'm never getting married!'" she joked. "But then I met Dave and suddenly I was like, 'Marry me right now!'"
Brie shared that she never felt the desire to get married, as her parents separated when she was just 5 years old.
But everything changed when she met Dave. Just a few months into their relationship, she found herself thinking, "I want to marry this guy." The couple exchanged vows in 2017.
Brie playfully mentioned that Franco was well aware that she would say yes when he proposed. She joked about dropping subtle hints about wanting to get married, like pretending her phone was open and mentioning a picture of a ring.

Brie shared that she dropped many hints about the ring, even telling her jewelry designer, Irene Neuwirth, "This is the ring and I know he’ll ask you because I mentioned it so many times."
After the proposal, she went back to the designer. "I told her, 'Okay, let's make the ring now,'" she remembered. "But then she showed me a photo of a ring she made, and I was like, 'No, not like that! Oh, my God!'"
At first, the Freelance star wasn't a fan of Franco. However, she later admitted that he "literally knows me better than I know myself" by choosing a temporary ring.
In August 2015, after three years of dating, Franco proposed with a rose-gold ring. The ring was beautifully designed with pavé diamonds.
Brie shared a funny memory from a 2017 appearance on Larry King Now. She mentioned that when Franco proposed to her in Big Sur, California, she was so surprised that she burst out laughing and asked him multiple times if he was serious before finally saying yes.
In a candid interview with Elle Canada in 2012, Brie had openly talked about her views on marriage, expressing that she was not keen on getting married at that time.
"I never really thought about planning my dream wedding. Instead, I was always imagining giving a speech at the Oscars," she shared. "It may sound a bit sad, but it was my ultimate dream, and I was really passionate about it."
Not long after getting engaged, Brie revealed to Yahoo! Style that her perspective on marriage shifted because of Franco.
She shared, "I recently met someone who made me realize, 'I am truly in love with you and would love to spend my life with you.' I find it more romantic when a couple says, 'I may not be keen on marriage, but I want to marry you.'"
