Je’niece McCallough, daughter of Bernie Mac, has expressed her wish for Aldis Hodge to portray her late father in a biopic. Hodge, 37, is excited about the idea and fully supports it.
During the Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video upfront presentation on Tuesday, May 14, Hodge shared, “First of all, I wish that I would have met him before his passing. I wish I would have worked with him. For her to even say that is the highest honor. His daughter? It gets no higher than that.”

Bernie Mac passed away in August 2008 at the age of 50. In June 2021, McCallough revealed to TMZ that John Legend’s Get Lifted production company was planning a biopic. Hodge was suggested as a potential actor to portray the legendary comedian.
A casting offer came his way, Hodge, best known for his roles in Leverage and Hidden Figures, shared that he would "absolutely" say yes.
On Tuesday, Hodge mentioned his background in stand-up comedy, recalling his time hosting a show at the L.A. Improv from the age of 13 to 17. He expressed his love for comedy and his desire to do more of it in his work. Reflecting on the impact of Mr. Mac on his life, he viewed the opportunity to portray him as a high honor and privilege.
Further details about the upcoming Mac biography are still under wraps, but Hodge is keeping himself occupied until a possible audition. Currently, he is taking on a role in Prime Video's Cross, scheduled to debut its first season later this year.
In a recent interview, Hodge expressed his excitement about the project, stating that it met all his criteria both professionally and emotionally. He praised the fantastic team, great set, and healthy work environment led by creator Ben Watkins. Hodge also highlighted the incredible narrative vision of Watkins and the exceptional talent of the cast. He emphasized his enthusiasm for the growth and potential of the project, contrasting it with past experiences where potential felt limited.
He expressed his excitement, stating, "With Cross, we are surpassing expectations and pushing boundaries. As an audience member, I am thrilled because I can always expect something bigger, better, and deeper every time I return."
Hodge and Prime Video unveiled the initial trailer for Cross and announced an early renewal for season 2 at Tuesday's upfront presentation.
