Where to find Words of Power in Alan Wake 2

The Words of Power in Alan Wake 2 are special symbols that can be found while exploring the levels of the game's protagonist in the Dark Place. These symbols are usually revealed by shining your flashlight on surfaces, causing arrows to appear that guide you toward a scribbled drawing. Once you spot one of these drawings, you must carefully position yourself while looking at it, causing the screen to briefly flicker. After a few seconds, the corresponding perk will become unlocked.

Bear in mind that each Word of Power glyph belongs to a specific category. For example, combat-oriented perks can be found in the Words of War and Words of Gun categories, while restorative properties are offered by Words of Fix and Words of Aid. As of the time of this writing, it is uncertain whether the perk types for Words of Power are predetermined or randomized for each player. However, based on our playthrough, we have observed and noted the types/categories that we have encountered.

There are a total of seven categories for Words of Power.

How to reveal more Words of Power

More Words of Power for Alan Wake 2, as well as other valuable items like Echoes and hidden treasures, can be discovered. While playing as Alan in each level, you may hear a melodious voice guiding you. Follow it and you will encounter Tim Breaker, the sheriff portrayed by actor Shawn Ashmore, paying homage to his role in Remedy's previous game, Quantum Break.

Engage in conversation with Tim whenever you come across him and examine the map displayed in his room. By doing so, you can pinpoint collectibles and areas of interest on Alan's personal map. However, it's important to note that we encountered some user interface bugs, resulting in icons remaining on our map even after obtaining the corresponding rewards.

Initiation 2: Casey - Words of Power in the Main Plaza

In the Dark Place version of New York, there are six Words of Power scattered across the Main Plaza. While your main objective is to proceed to the subway, we highly recommend taking the time to explore and collect these powerful enhancements, as well as other valuable items.

Word of Power #1

At the end of the alley where you encounter Casey, a luminous arrow will guide you towards a narrow passage that forms a loop. However, if you direct your gaze towards the wall above the doorway, you will notice the presence of the glyph.

Type: Fix

Location: Check the area with the trash cans outside the Talk Show Studio.

Word of Power #3

Type: Action

Location: Head on over to Draft Street, which is in the eastern portion of the main plaza. Then, shine your flashlight on the railway above you.

Word of Power #4

Type: Lamp

Location: Utilize your Angel Lamp on the adjacent post to the right of the entrance to Caldera Street Station (do not venture into the subway at this moment). As you activate the lamp, the post will vanish, revealing a set of stairs that will guide you to High-Line Station. Continue onwards until you reach the Break Room, which serves as a save point. Upon exiting, you will notice an arrow pointing towards a glyph located below. This glyph signifies Word of Power #5.

Find the Gun:

Once you've met up with Tim Breaker, proceed through the door that connects to the adjacent section of the alley. As you explore further, you'll come across a ladder that you can ascend. At the top, turn right and direct your attention towards the space between the two air-conditioning units. There, you'll discover the Gun.

Initiation 2: Casey - Words of Power in the Subway

The subway level in Alan Wake 2 contains numerous Words of Power. It is worth noting that navigating the complex and intricate tunnels can be quite challenging, often leading you to unexpectedly emerge in a different and further area.

Word of Power #1

Gun type: Angel Lamp

Location: Head down to the Caldera Street Station subway using your Angel Lamp. Before progressing further into the darkness, glance to your right and you will notice an abandoned train on the tracks. Utilize your Angel Lamp again to alter reality and uncover this exceptional skill.

Word of Power #2

Type: Aid

Location: Just past the first subway save point, you'll see some construction materials that have been left behind. Loop around and check the arrows to acquire this perk.

Word of Power #3

Type: Lamp

Location: After passing the Collapsed Tunnel (the large one), there are two narrower tunnels situated side by side. If you proceed and utilize your Angel Lamp, the cart in the adjacent section will vanish. This will grant you access to a small room featuring a glyph on the wall.

Word of Power #4

Type: War

Location: When you see the Derailed Train scene appear on your screen, take a look above you to spot this drawing.

Word of Power #5

In this action-packed segment, you will come across multiple Alan Wake 2 Words of Power in rapid succession. Once you transition from the Derailed Train scene to Torchbearers, you will be able to navigate through the wreckage and reach a small room housing an Echo. Descend the ladder and you will spot three vibrant arrows directing your attention to a wooden board. Unleash a melee attack to shatter the board and uncover this hidden glyph.

Type: Fix

Location: Once you have acquired #5, promptly move on to the subsequent area bustling with numerous Taken specters. Dispatch them and direct your attention towards the wall behind the ticketing booth adorned with the visually striking "Lost" graffiti.

Word of Power #7

Type: Lamp

Location: Upon exiting the previous area, you will arrive at Shrine Street Station. On your left, there is a partially flooded section. Look for the perk by examining the arrow and the far wall.

Word of Power #8

Type: Gun

As you continue towards Shrine Street Station, you will come across two abandoned trains situated side by side. Utilize the Angel Lamp outside the train to create a flickering light effect, allowing you to tag this particular drawn scribble.

Power Word #9.

Upon reaching the End of the Line scene, opt for the Murder Cult to uncover an Echo that grants access to the Summoning Ritual theme. Activate the Summoning Ritual to alter reality, unmasking a passageway on the right-hand side (opposite your initial direction). Proceed to the subsequent room, where the Word of Power is displayed prominently on the wall.

Initiation 5: Room 665 - Words of Power in the Back Alley/Rooftop

The next stage where you can acquire additional Words of Power in Alan Wake 2 is called Initiation 5 - Room 665. Your objective is to enter the Oceanview Hotel, but the only available route is through the alleys and rooftops to the west.

Type: Aid

Location: Before heading to the alleyway and rooftop section, check the street to the left of Oceanview Hotel. You'll see this drawn on the wall of a building.

Type: Aid

Location: As you're exploring the southern portion of the rooftop area, you should see the glowing arrows that point to this glyph, which is painted on a metal board.

Type: Lamp

Initiation 5: Room 665 - Words of Power in Oceanview Hotel

In the rooftop area, there is a slightly challenging location to find. Look for a doorway with two downward-pointing triangles in the northern part. On the side, there is a glyph located on a water tank. You can obtain this perk by gazing at the water tank from this vantage point. However, if you pass through the door and view the water tank from below, the game might not recognize it.

Initiation 5: Room 665 - Words of Power in Oceanview Hotel

Within the Oceanview Hotel, there are a few Words of Power for Alan Wake 2. It's important to note that the layout can be confusing as there are interconnected rooms spanning multiple floors, and progress may require transitioning between scenes.

Word of Power #1

In the midst of a war, make your way to Room 104 to secure the key. This room not only houses a save point but also serves as a gateway to Room 225. As you exit the hall, proceed towards Room 224. Observe the arrow directing you to a wooden board. Employ a melee attack to shatter it, revealing a hidden glyph on the bathroom wall. Although slightly obscured by the color, it is unmistakably present.

Word of Power #2

Type: Stuff

Location: When you reach the Oceanview Hotel Ballroom, direct your attention to the drawing positioned above the bar counter. Keep in mind that Words of Stuff are highly uncommon, as they can be unlocked as a perk and provide an opportunity to enhance your inventory.

Powerful Word #3

War

You can spot this specific Word of Power by peering through the glass above the doors that lead to the emergency exit on the second floor. At present, it is uncertain whether you can access this earlier in the hotel level. Our observation of this occurred only after we had fulfilled the primary objective. At that point, we had already employed the Devil and Climax scene choices.
