In line with typical survival horror conventions, Alan Wake 2 offers various hidden and optional tasks that reward players with additional items to aid them in surviving the terrifying challenges they face. These tasks range from unraveling the mysteries of Alan Wake 2's cult caches, which contain valuable notes and supplies, to discovering lunchboxes filled with resources for upgrading weapons. Moreover, players can engage in eerie side missions involving nursery rhymes, seemingly designed by the Federal Bureau of Control to investigate the peculiar phenomena arising from the supernatural entities present in Caldron Lake. One such mission awaits at the Watery Ranger Cabin during the third return chapter titled "Local Girl."
Alan Wake 2: Watery Ranger Cabin Nursery Rhyme Location & Solution
Players will question witnesses in the Watery region, navigating through a run-down trailer park and a coffee-themed amusement park. Along the way, they must follow leads related to the main case, leading them to the Kalevala Knights workshop next to Coffee World, where they need to find a fuse.
After completing this task and finishing the macabre float display, players will discover that Watery has expanded, granting them access to previously locked areas. They can now venture to the far northwest of the map, where the seemingly abandoned Ranger Cabin is situated in the forest.
This rhyme can't be accessed until after the fight in the Overlap.
Players should exercise caution when approaching the area near the front of the cabin, as there may be one or two wolves lurking in the surrounding woods. To gain entry into the cabin, players can utilize the screwdriver discovered at the Coffee World Gift Shop to open the lock. Once inside, players are advised to explore the cabin and then proceed upstairs to collect some of the wooden dolls required for this and other rhymes.
Collect The Maiden And Monster Dolls
Upstairs in the bedroom is a dresser to the right of the bed with the Maiden and the Monster dolls on it:
This screenshot was after both dolls were looted, but it is where they are located.
Ranger Cabin Nursery Rhyme Scene
After gathering the dolls, players should make their way back to the ground floor and exit through the rear entrance. It is crucial to remain vigilant upon stepping outside, as another wolf may attack before fully examining the scene depicted in the rhyme.
Once the wolf threat is eliminated, players can solve the cabin's puzzle. To do so, they should place the Maiden doll on the tree drawing and the Bear doll on the chalk heart:
Place Bear doll on heart.
Place Maiden doll on tree.
Collect The Charm Reward
Once Saga confirms the arrangement is correct, mysterious ebony pools will materialize, guiding her back inside the cabin and up the stairs to the bedroom. Resting upon the bed, she will discover an FBC charm that significantly enhances Saga's offensive capabilities when remaining undetected by adversaries. This valuable charm is particularly advantageous for players who favor utilizing the formidable crossbow in Alan Wake 2 to silently eliminate enemies from a distance.
Editor's P/S
Alan Wake 2 is finally here, and it's even better than I could have hoped for. The game is full of suspense, mystery, and intrigue, and I can't wait to see what happens next.
The Lake Lodge Lullaby Handbook is a great addition to the game, and it provides a lot of helpful information about the Watery Ranger Cabin Nursery Rhyme. I especially appreciate the detailed instructions on how to solve the puzzle, as I would have been lost without them.
Overall, I'm extremely impressed with Alan Wake 2, and I can't wait to see what the rest of the game has in store.
