A United Nations helicopter with multiple passengers onboard was seized by the terror group al-Shabaab following an emergency landing in their territory, a UN representative announced on Wednesday. UN Spokesman Stephane Dujarric confirmed the capture and stated that an assessment team is currently being assembled.
The emergency assistance helicopter from the UN was forced to make an emergency landing in Somalia's Galmudug region, believed to be caused by a mechanical problem. The region is under the control of the al-Qaeda affiliated terror group, as reported by the state-run Somali National News Agency (SONNA). SONNA also mentioned that there were eight passengers on board, including foreign nationals.
A rescue is underway, according to SONNA.
