Al Roker recently returned to the Today show after spending quality time with his son, Nick. Roker, 69, shared on the third hour of Today on Wednesday, March 13 that he had a great time during their spring break trip to Mexico. It was a father-son getaway that they both enjoyed.

Roker recently posted a slideshow of photos from his vacation on Instagram. The pictures included airport and beach selfies with his son, as well as snapshots of them relaxing by the pool and spending time with friends. Roker shares his son Nick and daughter Leila, 25, with his wife Deborah Roberts, and his daughter Courtney, 35, with his ex-wife Alice Bell.

According to Roker's caption on Monday, March 11, it was a #guystrip for him and Nick to the fabulous @rwmayakoba. They had the opportunity to bid farewell to the amazing Daniel Scott, who is leaving to head up The Rosewood Kona Village.

Roker talked about his recent trip with his Today cohosts Sheinelle Jones, Craig Melvin, and Dylan Dreyer. He mentioned that they enjoyed spending time at the beach, having delicious meals, and overall had a wonderful experience. Roker mentioned that it was special because they hadn't spent that much time together alone in about 10 years.

The trip was so enjoyable for Roker that he decided to extend his stay by an extra day. He described the experience as "so good" that he had to make a last-minute change and stay longer.

After spending quality time with Nick, he went to Miami for the Aspen Ideas: Climate Conference. He had the opportunity to interview U.S. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm, who he described as terrific. Additionally, he participated in a panel discussion with Katharine Hayhoe, a renowned climate scientist from Texas. During the panel, they focused on discussing climate issues and, more importantly, potential solutions.

Al Roker shared photos and videos from the climate change event on social media. One video showed him surprising Bill Nye backstage. Nye, 68, greeted Roker with a friendly "Al, hey man!" and praised him as the TV meteorologist who spoke about climate change early on.

Roker had to take a break from his hosting duties on Today show due to health issues. In November 2022, he was hospitalized with blood clots in his lungs and legs, which was a scary experience for him. After a two-month sabbatical to recover, he missed covering the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade for the first time in almost 30 years.

According to a source in January 2023, Roker considers himself fortunate to have received prompt medical treatment and to still be alive. Despite facing a challenging situation, he has shown great courage and positivity, always more concerned about others than himself. Currently, he is diligently following the doctors' advice to ensure his well-being.

In May, he missed several episodes of Today due to knee replacement surgery. During a brief appearance on Today, he mentioned that his knee was stiff after the procedure. He explained that it was a more complicated surgery because it was a revision - replacing a replacement. This required removing old parts and inserting new ones, making it a challenging process.
