Ahsoka Featured More Lightsaber Types Than Any Other Live-Action Star Wars TV Show
Ahsoka Tano, the central character, possessed a remarkable collection of thirteen distinct lightsaber blades, six of which she wielded herself. This abundance sets a new record for the most lightsabers ever showcased in a live-action Star Wars television series. Unlike recent Star Wars shows such as The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett that intentionally veered away from the Jedi's mysticism and their abilities to control the Force, the presence of lightsabers has been quite rare. Even in shows like Obi-Wan Kenobi, which focused on the Jedi and Inquisitors, the variety of lightsabers featured was limited. However, Ahsoka fearlessly embraced an array of countless lightsabers, skillfully utilizing them throughout the show.
Not only were audiences treated to sensational lightsaber duels by Ahsoka, but they were also given a valuable lesson in the art of lightsaber training and the significance of consistent practice. This was exemplified by Anakin Skywalker's holorecording in the seventh episode of Ahsoka. The show also presented various techniques for wielding lightsabers. Sabine Wren's evolution as a Jedi was evident in her proficiency with the weapon and her reduced dependence on blasters, although she occasionally resorted to Mandalorian tactics. Additionally, Ezra Bridger showcased his prowess by rejecting his old lightsaber and relying solely on the Force to defeat Grand Admiral Thrawn's Night Troopers and Shin Hati before constructing a new blade.
2024's The Acolyte Will Probably Beat Ahsoka's Record
The Acolyte is expected to surpass the number of lightsabers seen in Ahsoka. Taking place 100 years before Star Wars: Episode I—The Phantom Menace, the show will focus on the end of the High Republic Era and the infiltration of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant by mysterious dark side Force users. The footage shown at Star Wars Celebration 2023 revealed an abundance of Jedi, lightsabers, and lightsaber colors, eclipsing anything seen since the Battle of Geonosis. With this in mind, it is almost certain that The Acolyte will surpass Ahsoka's record by tenfold. Only time will tell if The Acolyte will break the lightsaber record, but fans of Star Wars can now rejoice in the return of lightsabers as a common weapon in Ahsoka.
