Adrienne Bailon-Houghton is opening up about her experience with IVF (in vitro fertilization) and the expenses involved.
"I went through eight cycles of IVF, in addition to various IUIs and other fertility treatments," shared Bailon-Houghton, 40, in an interview with People. "It was a challenging six-year journey to have my son."
The actress shared that she and her husband spent "easily over a million" dollars on fertility treatments, which she acknowledged is not realistic for most people. They welcomed their son, Ever James, 20 months, via surrogate in August 2022.
This is not the first time the Cheetah Girls star has been open about her fertility journey throughout the years.
During a 2018 episode of The Real, where she was a co-host from 2013 to 2022, she mentioned the importance of being understanding towards those who may not get pregnant quickly. She shared, "I thought it would happen easily for me, but it just hasn't happened that way."
In a conversation with We in January, Bailon-Houghton talked about the significant impact motherhood had on her life.
"It completely changed how I see life and how I choose to spend my time," she shared with Us in an exclusive interview. "I cherish the moments I get to be at home with my son and work on these amazing shows that we film together. We enjoy watching them as a family afterwards. Family time is truly the key to happiness."

Adrienne Bailon shared a photo of her son, Ever James, on Instagram. She also revealed her dream celebrity playdate, hoping that in the future, her kids can hang out with Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker's son, Rocky. Kardashian and Barker welcomed Rocky in November 2023.
"We're excited for it," she mentioned. "It's definitely going to happen."
Before marrying Houghton at the age of 52 in November 2016, Bailon-Houghton was known for dating Kourtney's brother, Rob Kardashian. Even though they broke up in 2009 after two years together, Bailon-Houghton has stayed close to his well-known sisters.
She continued, "I really adore those girls. They are truly amazing. They are supportive and always ready to boost your confidence. They will tell you, 'You can do it. You look fantastic,' and it feels great."

Adrienne Bailon-Houghton's candid account of her fertility journey and the exorbitant costs associated with IVF highlights the immense financial burden that many couples face when pursuing this path to parenthood. The revelation that she and her husband spent "easily over a million" dollars on fertility treatments underscores the financial inequities that exist in accessing reproductive healthcare. While it is encouraging to see celebrities using their platform to raise awareness about fertility issues, it is crucial to acknowledge the systemic barriers that prevent many individuals from accessing the same level of care.
Furthermore, Bailon-Houghton's experience as a surrogate mother for her own child adds a unique perspective to the conversation surrounding surrogacy. Surrogacy can provide a valuable option for couples who are unable to carry a pregnancy themselves, but it also raises ethical and legal considerations. By sharing her personal story, Bailon-Houghton helps to shed light on the complex nature of surrogacy and the importance of informed decision-making for both intended parents and surrogates.
